My son and I were at the match on Juneteenth. That was when Claudette came blowing through with a butt load of rain. There was no way to drain that amount of water. Sometimes mother nature has other plans.

True. But a a hurricane coming through is different from your run-of-the-mill Southern thunder storm.

Not if you’re playing on natural grass and run the same 3 lines all game. It’s like the battle of the LOS in football being stuck in the middle of the field for 50 of 60 minutes.

Maybe the fans don't know how to discern between their lowest bodily orifice and a void in the earth's surface. I can't speak to the condition of the field, but a quick check shows that the game was to begin at 7:00, which roughly coincides with when a pretty substantial thunderstorm rolled into town. NWS records show there was in excess of 1 inch of rain in short order- which is a lot- and there was a good bit of lightning. I for one wouldn't want to be standing in the middle of that field kicking a ball around. Not to mention the fact that the area got a bunch of rain on Tuesday at the remnants of TS Danny came through, so the ground was thoroughly saturated before the thunderstorms yesterday.

Wait! You actually think it’s a bad idea to sit on metal bleachers in the middle of a large flat area surrounded by tall metal poles in the middle of a thunderstorm? What a Maroon!

Actually the game was stopped because of lighting protocol as are all athletic events. You cannot start back until no lighting for X minutes
The field was playable at time - I do not remember players sliding which is what shows that the condition of the field is unplayable because of drainage. Since the game was in the second half - league rules would determine if the game could be declared over after Y minutes

Game was delayed because of lightning but was called off due to the standing water that accumulated during the delay. The field this year does not seem to drain as well as it did in the past for sure.
And the game can only be considered a full match after the 80th minute.

Thanks for the revisit to that historic game in Blazer history. It gave one Blazer poster his "brand" for years. We also got a revisit to the Viking mascot of that day. How many seasons did the Viking mascot "rule" until replaced by the dragon? Is the Viking outfit stored in some closet at Bartow Arena?

Last I heard the head was in an unused office that was being used for storage in the old student center. That building is no more and the fate of BGV’s head is a mystery to me
