Honestly, in my opinion of course, this is the perfect example of how Carey recruited vs how Hammock does.
We already have some kids Hammock has brought in that you can say have a legit chance of being drafted - not just a tryout thing.
Lafayette stands out right away. A host of the kids on the DLine could have a legit chance if they can produce. There are WRs who can seriously play.
It’s interesting- it isn’t to say Carey’s guys couldn’t win in the MAC, because they can and did. But Hammock is going for guys he thinks can compete on a national level.
It’s going to be fun to watch the difference in the next season or so.
To be fair, there aren't a lot of Huskies to get looked at this year. Crawford is the only guy looking to continue playing at the next level. Bowers, Olsen, Oliver and Baggett are the only other guys who are not playing somewhere next year and as far as I know none of them participated in the pro day. So 0/1 this year, as of this moment.
Next year will be a little better. Richie will get drafted. Indications are that Ratkovich has a chance to be drafted, but there is a very small niche market for H-Back/Fullback guys like him. Ference and Pugh could possibly get UDFA looks, although even if he has a great year I'm not sure how many teams will be looking for a 30 year old rookie like Pugh lol.

That would suck to be someone over confident in their abilities. Like Anthony Johnson, Tyree Jackson, or our boy Daniel Crawford. They come out thinking they'll get drafted or make a roster, and 7 rounds go by and nothing happens.
I hope the best for Crawford. Maybe he was just ready to play or graduate.

Jackson is the one on that list that we can point to and say mistake.
Crawford was probably done and figured he’d give this a try. Johnson was going to lose carries - and in the eyes of the NFL RBs have a shelf life.

I really don’t think this is a Carey thing—-it’s truly a MAC thing and if Hammock is good enough to recruit multiple draft picks (to be seen) that would be great. The MAC is pretty consistently from 6-8 picks from ALL teams combined getting drafted. There were 11 in 2017 but I’m have no idea if any of them in the bottom half of the draft are playing.
And, it’s not like Kill or Doreen (or Novak) cranked them out either—going back almost 15 years:
07–Wolfe (no NFL impact)
09-English (injures really made him a bust in the 1st round)
12-Harnish (better story being Mr. Irrelevant than any impact)
14-Bishop
15-Brown
17-Kenny (making a living out of it)
19-Sutton (hurt in camp and out really quick)
We’ve had more non drafted players do fine than drafted players.
The MAC is the MAC—every once in a while an impact player comes through, but not very often for a D1 conference.
You're missing quite a few there:
Darrel Hill
Christian Blake
Tommy Lee Lewis
Doug Free
Max Sharping
Ryan Diem
Michael Turner
and the most glaring Jimmy "Freakin" Ward
Just missed Scharping and Ward. The others were FAs or more than 15 years.
gotcha I was looking at Players in the NFL not just drafted players. I missed Justin McCareins, Rashaan Melvin and Sam Hurd on my list as well, a few of those are also going back.
We have had more NFL players in the last 20 years than I thought though.

I was thinking of the Buffalo receiver who came out with Tyree. He was really good, can't believe he didn't hang on a roster. But then again, I'm still in shock nothing came of Mykelti Williams and Jordan Huff.

Also shocked about Mykelti Williams. Definitely thought he would go before Tre Harbison.

Me too on Huff. Thought he was the most NFL prototype back in a long time here. Then again, I’m still mad about Martel Moore.

Scary thing about Todd Peat is that we are bordering on 35 years....and he was a beast...and now his son is in the league.

How much luck is involved making a NFL team? IDK. But Tim Semisch managed 3 seasons there. Explain that?????

He was sideline to sideline. Really liked the way he played. Can't believe he didn't end up anywhere.

He got better and the staff did not use him to the fullest. That catch in the back of the endzone against Army still sticks out to me as one of the best grabs I have ever seen by a Huskie.

That catch was very cool. But I think him being 6’7or8” was just a thing an NFL team was looking for.

He's lucky to get that. If he was a Hawkeye at heart, dreamt of going there as I have heard, I get it. To most it's ok since it's not the other UI.
But if he did it thinking it was his stepping stone to the NFL, well, let's just say add him to the list of Huskies that went after that pipe dream that they woke up in the middle of.

In Heflin's own words he chose Iowa to enhance his NFL chances, and because he grew up an Iowa fan.

He has a shot. Herndon is the clear starter but I don't think he's ever played a full season. They signed Kroft from Buffalo. After that the 3 guys on the roster last year had pretty much zero production and are more blockers than receivers. So if he can show anything on special teams then he might slide in as a niche passing down/move TE.
First he has to make a big enough impression in this camp to get invited to training camp.
