RE: Baseball: Weekend home series vs. W&M
Smith only allowed 1 hit in his 7 innings: A leadoff single in the 1st to Ben Williamson.

He gets relieved for lefty Noah Overton in the 8th. Overton works around a 1-out walk to set the Tribe down.

11-0 Hawks, bottom 8th.

Didn't matter where he was, he was dominant. We now miss having him in the bullpen to get us out of early jams or to close out close games. All of our starters have got to come out with shutdown pitching to start games like Smith did. Early deficits have killed us all year.

Really needed that series win. Good to see them win a 1 run game.

Absolutely crucial series win to keep us in the thick of things. We may be in 4th in the South currently, at 7-8, but we’re oh so close to first place Charleston (8-7) after this.

RE: Baseball: Weekend home series vs. W&M
Northeastern all but wrapped up the North Division and # 1 seed this weekend, with a 4-game sweep over Towson. Now its just a race for the # 2 seed in the South.

The top 6 in the league are currently: 1. NU, 2. Elon, 3. Charleston, 4. W&M, 5. UNCW, 6. JMU. The North Division being so bad outside of NU is helping us at the moment.

Elon currently has the tiebreaker over Charleston thanks to a series win earlier in the schedule.

South Division standings

1. Elon (8-7, .533)
Charleston (8-7, .533)
3. W&M (9-9, .500)
4. UNCW (7-8, .467)
5. JMU (4-5, .444)

Remaining schedule, South Division teams:

Elon

@ Charleston - 3 games, May 20-22

Charleston

@ W&M - 3 games, May 7-8
@ UNCW - 3 games, May 14-16
vs. Elon - 3 games, May 20-22

W&M

vs. Charleston - 3 games, May 7-8
@ JMU - 3 games, May 15-16

UNCW

vs. JMU - 3 games, May 7-9
vs. Charleston - 3 games, May 14-16

JMU

@ UNCW - 3 games, May 7-9
vs. W&M - 3 games, May 15-16

There may be a scenario where we cancel our series at the end of the year @ Charlotte and make up the JMU series we missed earlier in the season.

A lot has to happen before we have a good idea of where we'll finish. But this weekend pushed us into 5th place overall in the CAA and that's a much better place than we were in entering the weekend.
