Good to see mid-major QB’s getting love in the Draft. I remember being upset that he chose North Dakota over NIU.

This begs the question: If he had gone to NIU, would he have become the 3rd overall pick this year?

Eh...depends do you believe in his talent? OR do you believe that he is a product of being a big fish in a small pond and looking good doing that.

I've seen him play 2 games, and I am super confused about why EVERYONE thought so highly of him. I mean drafting him over Fields is the most insane thing I have ever heard or seen.

So my opinion, if he went to NIU, no - he would not have been #3. This is a shockingly terrible reach. Not to say he can't be an NFL QB, but is he going to be Justin Fields? Time will tell.

Making him the 3rd overall pick was certainly a reach (and 49ers gave up assets just to move up to #3). That's something the Bears would do, like giving up assets to draft Mitchell #1 overall (who was only a starting QB at an average P5 for a 1.5-2 years). From what i can tell, Trey Lance has a small body of work against FCS competition and he wasn't exactly throwing for 400-500 yards in most of those games. He seems to be more of a game manager and not a game breaker.

Trey Lance ? Very similar to Jordan Lynch, but bigger and stronger arm. His arm motion is not NFL quality , not very accurate. Takes to long to throw. 17 games going to the NFL in 1st round..
That's a stretch. BTW, Jimmy Garopolo the current 49er QB was almost a Huskies as well. We offered but the Prospect qb Ossai accepted first. Ossai was a late, late de-committ who ended up at IL as anWR.

From what I saw of Trey's college stats, he appeared to average a rather pedestrian 175 yards and less than 2 TDs per game passing. He appears to have the running ability, but hoping he is the next Lamar Jackson is probably unrealistic. If you draft someone #3 overall they should be an elite player and ready to start as a rookie.

Haha I’ve been saying the same thing. Really was hoping he would go to NIU!

Absolutely. Fields is played in a better system, faced tougher competition, and is an outstanding athlete for his 6'3 230 lb prototypical frame. Crazy he runs a 4.4 40.

I wonder too how much of his selection is the fact that the school has put out some NFL caliber quarterbacks lately (Carson Wentz and Easton Stick}

100% NDState has become the Bama of FCS because of High Profile guys like Wendt’s.
