This woman's opinion is a prime example. Instead of conceding that the VAST majority of public encounters with the police end up positive or without incident?...She chooses to take the few examples of misconduct and paint ALL police as corrupt.
It's dishonest and quite disturbing to hear from someone that is teaching...ANYTHING.

Yes this.

Many people like this teacher are also part of the "we" - a very passive aggressive way of displacing a personal opinion off as "we (the masses) think" something. Other popular words from the "we" include Everybody, All, and nobody....

RE: WATCH: Professor Berates Student For Calling Police ‘Heroes’
Quote:A California professor was placed on leave after a video of her berating a student during a Zoom class went viral.

According to the New York Post, an adjunct professor at Cypress College was placed on a leave of absence after she berated 19-year-old student Braden Ellis for calling police “heroes.” The school said that it was the unidentified professor’s first and last class at the school.

“The adjunct professor will be taking a leave of absence for the duration of her assignment at Cypress College,” the school said. “This was her first course at Cypress and she had previously indicated her intention to not return in the fall.”

Ellis was giving a presentation on “cancel culture” and why it is “so destructive and tearing our country apart.” Ellis said that during his speech, he mentioned how activists attempted to “cancel” the children’s show “Paw Patrol” in light of the anti-police sentiment stemming from the Black Lives Matter movement.

In the allotted question and answer portion of Ellis’s presentation, the professor scolded Ellis for his pro-police views. The professor also claimed that the idea of policing was derived from catching slaves in the American south.

“So you brought up the police in your speech a few times. So, what is your main concern? Since, I mean honestly … the issue is systemic,” the professor said. “Because the whole reason we have police departments in the first place, where does it stem from? What’s our history? Going back to what [another classmate] was talking about, what does it stem from? It stems from people in the south wanting to capture runaway slaves.”

Later in the conversation, the professor claimed that she would not call the police if someone had a knife or a gun near her.

The transcript reads:

Ellis: I think [police] are heroes in a sense because they come to your need and they come and help you. They have problems just like every other business, but we should fix that —

Professor: It’s not a business. I think that’s the problem, is looking at it as a business. Because they’re actually supposed to protect and serve the people.

Ellis: They do protect us. Who do we call when we’re in trouble and someone has a knife or a gun?

Professor: I wouldn’t call the police.

Ellis: Why wouldn’t you call the police?

Professor: I don’t trust them. My life’s in more danger in their [presence].

Ellis: Professor, who would you call?

Professor: I wouldn’t call anybody.

Ellis: If [someone] intruded your house with a gun … would you have a gun on you? Who would you call?

Ellis told The Daily Wire that he was shocked by his professor’s comments and also worried about the future of the American education system.

“I was shocked to hear her comments about police, but I stood firm in my beliefs,” Ellis said. “We need to fight back against this liberal ideology spreading in our colleges and save America.”

Maybe I missed the last part of the video, but that last portion in the article above where she claimed she would not call the police if accosted by someone with a knife may be the most damning. It also might be the strongest grounds for the university to get rid of her— she is basically jeopardizing the welfare of the students by lecturing them not to call the police when their lives are in danger.

Actually I don't think he supports Matt Goetz like Repubs do.

RE: WATCH: Professor Berates Student For Calling Police ‘Heroes’

Quote:What's happening now?
After the filmed exchange went viral, Cypress College issued a statement revealing that the professor would be "taking a leave of absence" for the duration of her time at the college.

"The adjunct professor will be taking a leave of absence for the duration of her assignment at Cypress College. This was her first course at Cypress and she had previously indicated her intention to not return in the fall."

"Cypress College takes great pride in fostering a learning environment for students where ideas and opinions are exchanged as a vital piece of the educational journey," the statement continued. "Our community fully embraces this culture; students often defend one another's right to express themselves freely, even when opinions differ. Any efforts to suppress free and respectful expression on our campus will not be tolerated."

Anything else to know?
Ellis told the Orange County Register that he respected the professor despite her opposing views.

"I'm a student, that means I'm not going to bag on her," he said. "She has authority, and that means I give her respect."

He continued, "I don't think she had anything against me personally, just against my argument for police."

Elsewhere in his remarks to the outlet, Ellis said that he was deeply concerned about what he suggested was indoctrination in higher learning.

"Why does [the professor] have to bring in biased liberal ideology and stick that down our throats?" he wondered. "We're learning about white privilege, and what does that have to do with anything? I was supposed to take this class to learn how to speak better."

He later told the New York Post that those opposing that "liberal ideology" need to speak up.

“Liberal ideology is bad right now and people need to expose it and fight back — with gentleness and respect. Imagine if we don't fight back now? What will they teach us in 10 years? It would be pure hatred," Ellis said. “I have another [instructor] who is just as bad. These teachers just spew divisiveness and hatred toward our country."

RE: WATCH: Professor Berates Student For Calling Police ‘Heroes’
Quote:In April, I covered the story of a Zoom class discussion at California’s Cypress College.

Amid a communications report, student Braden Ellis claimed cancel culture is “so destructive and tearing our country apart.”

The freshman pointed to last year’s controversy over kids’ cartoon Paw Patrol.

In case you missed that uproar, June saw criticism of the show for portraying “good cops.”

The New York Times assessed the damage thusly:

Paw Patrol seems harmless enough, and that’s the point: The (justice/anti-police) movement rests on understanding that cops do plenty of harm.

By contrast, Braden claimed police are “heroes.”

His teacher was of a different mind, as her many remarks made clear:

“So you brought up the police in your speech a few times. So what is your…main concern? Since, I mean, honestly…the issue is systemic.”
“[T]he whole reason we have police departments in the first place — where did it stem from? … It stems from people in the South wanting to capture runaway slaves.”
“[A] lot of police officers have committed atrocious crimes and have gotten away with it and have never been convicted of any of it.”
“[W]hat is your bottom-line point? You’re saying police officers should be revered? Viewed as heroes? They belong on TV shows [for] children?”
“I wouldn’t call the police. … I don’t trust them. … My life’s in more danger in their [presence].”
The ordeal went viral, preceding the instructor’s leave of absence.

Via a school statement, Cypress indicated she wasn’t planning a return:

The adjunct professor will be taking a leave of absence for the duration of her assignment at Cypress College. This was her first course at Cypress and she had previously indicated her intention to not return in the fall.

And now, another video’s pegged the reason the whole thing went down.

As it turns out, it was due to corruption of the KKK kind.

What, exactly, is white supremacy?

Reportedly, Cypress professor Maha Afra believes it’s what was battled on Zoom.

According to The Daily Wire, she posted a video laying it out:

The clip announces, “Academic Freedom is under attack by White Supremacy.”

Per the pushback, all the communications teacher did was “[challenge] his arguments” by “what we call ‘academic discourse.'”

“It’s easy to paint Braden as an innocent victim of what he calls ‘cancel culture,'” the video says, “but cancel culture is really ‘consequence culture.'”

Next, the post serves up some consequence:

“For example, here he is holding up the White Power symbol while wearing MAGA gear.”

Cue a photo of Braden and an older man touching their forefingers to their thumbs.

Following that, viewers are given “some other things to consider”:

“The video is of a class presentation over Zoom where other students were present. The professor was doing her job of questioning him, as is standard in university classrooms. But Cypress College still put her on leave — for doing her job.”

The tweet goes on to ask “folks to do public comment at the board of trustees meeting.”

It subsequently provides meetings’ dates and times.

“Tell the district to protect its faculty and students and to stand up against white supremacy and police violence.”

Perhaps the video’s creators never saw Saturday Night Live in its glory days–

Or the presidency of Barack Obama:

So goes sinister symbology…

Meanwhile, as for the definition of white supremacy, RedState’s Jeff Charles has thoughts.

He recently referenced the dictionary:

The definition of white supremacy, according to Merriam-Webster is: “the social, economic, and political systems that collectively enable white people to maintain power over people of other races.”

Jeff’s got a different take on racism and issues concerning the cops:

If the “Defund the Police” crowd have their way, it will result in “social, economic, and political” conditions that will help to exacerbate the impact and legacy of racist government policies specifically designed to create the disparities between black and white Americans that we see today.

Nonetheless, evidently, some in academia are fighting the power of policing.

And they’re schooling everyone on what’s right — AKA “doing [their] job of questioning” anything to the contrary…AKA white supremacy.

I ended up following Braden on twitter after this. I think he’ll do well in politics if he pursues it.
