Seems like a better ranking system than USNews. Just my perspective.

Some of these rankings surprised me, but I'll wait to hear everyone else's thoughts before I comment.

How on gods green earth is Navy ranked that low...

Guess it not 100% based on the level of education you get.

Curious what they use to measure a universities quality.

The metrics for the World University rankings are:

Teaching
Volume of research
Citations (research influence)
International Outlook (staff, students, research)
Industry Income

For this reason you'll see the liberal arts schools fall back behind the heavy research institutions. The metrics of the USNWR and the AAU puts a strong emphasis on liberal arts.

It is a "world" list so international schools are ranked. Ole Miss is #160 in the USNWR rankings so being listed #434 when you factor in the universities abroad it compares.

965 out of 19,788. That puts us in the top 5 percentile. Nothing wrong with that.

RE: World University Rankings 2020-2021
Yeah... putting an emphasis on research typically means that you’re ranking graduate programs more than undergraduate programs. Grad students are far more likely to participate in research or be cited. Also, I’d like to know about the amount of research or the number of citations on a % basis to student size. Tulsa is tiny. Of course we’re not going to produce as many papers as Ohio State. But we might have individuals who are cited more often on a % basis.

The way this metric is done for this ranking seems flawed to me. Probably done by a former UH grad student. I hear they’re finally teaching them to count using their fingers AND their toes. This makes their “research” twice as legitimate.

RE: World University Rankings 2020-2021
This is a strange ranking.

USF should be above UH
UC amd UCF probably as well

There are different ways of measuring research. One is by the money spent.
USF does significantly more research than UH.

Another, are the results. The https://academyofinventors.org/ ranks
universities on patents granted. Again, USF is higher.
It shows:

16 USF
65 UCF
76 UH
96 UC
Georgia State is not in the top 100 of universities granted patents.

As far as teaching is a metric, shouln't it matter if a school is
ranked #1 in the country on entrepreneurship and ranks in the top 100
of universities in the World in producing millioniares?

Universities cannot afford to sleep with their rankings. Some have
dreams. Some have dreams, drive, and money. There are reasons I call
it "Incubator U". UH has an AAU program called "50-in-5". Each
department is expected to increase output by %50 within 5 years.
The "Iron Lady" will crack the whip. Just, ask Levine and Applewhite.

I am always suspicious when I see small sized universities similarly grouped lower than most of their rankings in more well known places.

Usually a good sign they are working off of raw numbers. That means certain institutions have built in advantages of overall numbers.
