100% this. Need big bodies down low, even at the expense of offensive skill. This roster really needs a Kareem Johnson or Steve Toyloy type. Hell I'd probably take both at this point.

All jokes aside, on a roster of 13 potential guys, three are transfers from UNCG. That is a tad over 20%. One of the transfers is a one year rent-a-player who happens to be a shot blocking, FT shooting 7+ footer.

I felt a stud on the wing was necessary but the right now the sheer quantity of what looks like decent or better guys at 1-3 plus stretch 4’s makes this less of a need than post play.

There is always a chance someone in that group becomes the Alpha but nobody on the roster is set to become a low post threat, rebounding space eating monster.

I think Davenport can be an alpha if he works on his ball handling/play making ability. Madsen has potential in that role as well. I was hoping for a wing who could come in and average 15 per game as well, and we still may find that person. Now that we can field a full team, I expect the staff to focus all their efforts into a small group of really high-end transfers. Guys are still entering the portal daily, and are expected to into the summer. With this staff, I think we'll have a great shot with any stud transfers entering the portal who aren't already dead set going going to a specific school.

I'm not sure what point you are going for but we also took one of their commits. So 3 Transfers and one decommit/transfer. I don't think I've ever seen that before especially in the span of a couple weeks. But it's been a crazy year.

The ability for a player to transfer without restriction or penalty has existed for all of 10 months in college sports, so yeah, none of us have seen that happen before 03-lmfao...to say you've never seen something happen within the first instance of it being able to happen, is a certain kind of mental gymnastics to try to validate an opinion that I don't think I've ever seen before, especially in the span of a couple weeks (see what I did there).

It has happened more time than I can count with recruiting classes throughout the decades, so why wouldn't it then transition to rostered players when they are allowed to follow without wasting a year of their own?

My point is our roster was down to what, four players? I don't understand the big deal about WHERE these kids come from when we had so many holes to plug. If these are players that the coach feels best fit his system and have familiarity/continuity then why is that an issue? They're kids he's recruited too. In the grand scheme of things, the UNCG connection is a small portion of the entire roster. Carry on.

It was down to 4 with 2 of those that have still not come out and said that they are definitely planning to stick around.

Players have been allowed to transfer for many years and many have done so. Yes it's true the new rules have made it easier than ever which is why I summed it up as a "crazy year". I"m not sure what opinion it is you think I'm trying to validate other than I've never seen 4 go from one team to another regardless of whether they had to sit out or not.

I see what you did there too - You made my observation into a straw-man claim trying to get me to defend a position I never took. I never said or implied anything inconsistent with that transition. However, I am not as familiar with all these instances of one team switching 4 commits to them all from one school within a few weeks. That is what you are claiming happened more time than you can count, right? (If not, please clarify.) I can't think of any so I'm genuinely interested in your examples.

Happens essentially every year in football, and to a lesser extent in basketball simply because of the size of the rosters. We were in a wonderful predicament of having to fill 9 spots on the roster (unprecedented in it's own right thanks to the prior regime) so we likely had to fill with who would come. Listen, I'm not super keen on taking a ton of Socon guys either, but I'm not machine gunning the moves on every thread I can.

I figured we might get a player or two who was connected to Miller at Greensboro, given all the spots he had to fill on this roster. But I also thought that, with so many guys in the transfer portal, maybe we would have a shot at some higher caliber players. Still a couple scholarships to fill though, and Miller was playing catch-up and had to put his staff together and whatnot, so I get it. Let's see where things end up.

RE: 2021-22 Roster
If I were 6'9" -6'10" and athletic, I would love this roster.

Little competition for playing time. The other three 4s & 5s are either low rated, inexperienced, or both.

Plenty of talented guards and wings with experience. DDJ, MAW, Davenport, and Newman (pending injury status) would all start on most Sweet-16 teams. Madsen and Saunders are talented backups who can handle pressure.

All that is missing is *me* to turn this into top-20 team.

I would be shocked if CWM hasn't been going through the portal for potential players. There's still spots to fill so I agree, let's wait and see where we land.

In all honesty Miller was dealt a tough hand by Richie Cunningham. He is taking what he can get to stay afloat. In future years we should expect better than SOCON guys.

So of course no examples, just an attempt to change the claim to football (I see what you did there too 03-wink ). We're talking basketball which is why I found your claim that it "happened more time than (you) can count" so outlandish. But I'd bet it's pretty rare even in football with the rosters being over 6 times as large but that's not the point so I won't request examples.

I'm not sure where the "machine-gunning" bit is coming from. It was just a simple observation independent of the quality of the transfers (which is a separate but entirely valid topic btw.) I don't get why it has you alternating between making bizarre exaggerated claims to strangely defensive to attack mode but whatever....
