Top 5% world ranking
Academics not sports but for the second time in less than a year Univ of Memphis has received great world rankings.

The University of Memphis ranks in the top 5% out of 19,788 universities around the world, according to the 2021-22 edition of the “Global 2000 List by the Center for World University Rankings.”

This is the second time in months the U of M has ranked high on international lists.

In September 2020, it ranked well in the 2021 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. It was one of three honored in Tennessee, including Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

U of M ranks in 10 of 11 areas in Times Higher Ed World Rankings

“Receiving our second world ranking in the school’s history – in an eight-month span – demonstrates the phenomenal, unprecedented direction and growth academically that the University of Memphis is experiencing,” said President M. David Rudd. “The Global 2000 List by the Center for World University Rankings and 2021 Times Higher Education World University Rankings are important milestones for academics at the University of Memphis to go along with our prestigious U.S. News & World Report ranking.

Great leadership from Dr. Rudd. I hope that the committee can find a replacement that good.

Vandy and UTK were the only other TN colleges on the list. Not sure about out of state universities that are close.

While this sounds good we are still 9th out of the 12 schools that call the American home. The only schools behind us are Navy, Tulsa and Wichita.

We still got work to do.

#215 in the United States. If the University can get within shouting distance of top 100 then we can start thinking about being invited to a P5 conference. More realistically all Universities in the American need to continue to improve keep striving for Inclusion as a member of the P6.

You honestly believe Memphis is academically better than the United States Naval Academy and Tulsa.

Did I read that correctly?

Good grief.

Wrong. Look it up. Not close.

Wichita State and Memphis are close to being the worst. Tough argument either way.

RE: Top 5% world ranking
Can't you people just accept that some things can be taken at face value. It is positive press period.

There are several categories that are weighted. You will notice that The Naval Academy has a strong academic rating vs ours but our research ranking is almost twice that of Navy.

Memphis is rising in ranking and reputation and respect in almost all areas. We won't ever be at the very top and even the top 100 is a longshot in the short-term because that has not been our mission. The higher you move the harder it is to move up because you rarely see rankings drop across the board in all areas. To get to the top 100 you need some people to lose ground not just us improving by that much.

The Tulsa folks think of themselves as the Harvard of Oklahoma.

Seriously.

Well, Tulsa is arguably the best in Oklahoma. I get your point though.
