missed on another Little Rock transfer
Ex-Kansas, ex-Vanderbilt player, Isaac McBride, heads to Oral Roberts. It's one thing if we lose a player to an SEC team, but Darious Hall picks UCA and McBride picks ORU. No idea if we recruited these kids, but it's hard to imagine we would get anybody better. Hopefully, I'll be surprised.

RE: missed on another Little Rock transfer
I wish we had some insight into why we can't get a Little Rock kid to transfer back here. I just don't understand it. Out of high school, I understand them wanting the bright lights of a Power 5 school, but if they are going to transfer down why not come home?

I actually didn't think we would get McBride because he was a 4 star that I assumed would want to stay in the spotlight. But ORU? Yes, I know they had a great season this year. Maybe, Solomon Bozeman closed the deal. I assume he can still relate to college age kids.

I hope Darrell proves me wrong but a Hard a$$ old school coach is not on many kids wish lists in 2021

Maybe that explains it. I can't believe we weren't interested in LR transfers such as Darious Hall, Isaac McBride, Javon Franklin, and Ethan Henderson. But, on the other hand, wouldn't you consider Coach Beard pretty old school?

RE: missed on another Little Rock transfer
We actually gave Mcbride an offer back in the Flanagan days. Then Wes got fired and the offer went nowhere since Mcbride got a P5 offer to Kansas. He's been hopping around ever since.

I wish I could answer this question more specifically given I grew up and went to school with some of these guys. My best guess, Home is not where they're trying to be, its where they're trying to move away from at this age. I could be more specific but basically some of these guys haven't explored much out of the state and strive to be away from home for awhile. Just how it is unfortunately.

Honestly, that view is more reasonable and is better than the possibility that 1. we didn't try to recruit them or 2. they don't want to play for us because of our coach, team, program, etc.

According to an article in yesterday’s (Sunday’s) ADG, Walker said he wasn’t much interested in transfers.

Yes, you're probably right. Some kids just want to go away and aren't interested in playing in their home town. Still, it likely isn't the reason for all the LR/AR kids in the Transfer Portal, but might explain a couple of their decisions. Still, there is something wrong when we don't seem to be a viable option for so many local players.

I guess I missed that article. Seems like he is behind the curve, because just about every other coach appears working the Portal pretty hard.

Just went back and found the article. Obviously, Darious Hall was looking to come back to Central Arkansas. After reading Darrell's comment, i guess i don't need to be checking the Portal several times a day. Although, I'm still rather interested in seeing the comings and goings of a number of these players.

When you were choosing a college did you want to stay at home while all your friends went away to college to live on their own and do what they wanted without much supervision?

No question I wanted to go away and don't blame any high school seniors from doing the same. I guess my thought with the transfers I have mentioned is that they have gone away. They experienced what it was like to be on their own, away from home, and at a "big time" university. My thinking was that, at least, some of these kids would relish the opportunity to finish their careers at a place where they could get significant playing time, play in front of friends and family, and learn from a former NBA player and coach. Certainly didn't expect all, over even most, of these players to come home to Little Rock. But, believing one or two might do so, didn't seem unreasonable.

I agree. I was interested in getting McBride because we need another PG. And he should have 4 years left (like that matters these days).

Just to follow-up, I don't know that I have every criticized a LR high school senior who chose to leave that State or city (I would exclude Trey Finn who committed to us and then flipped to ASU). Certainly not one who had an opportunity to play at a higher level. I just feel we are a great landing spot for a kid who has gotten leaving home out of their system and has had trouble getting the playing time they crave at a high major school. Maybe Darrell didn't recruit any of these transfers, maybe none were interested in playing here, maybe bridges were broken during a previous recruiting process, maybe we are about to sign better players. I guess the last option is the only one that will make me feel better about not getting any of these kids. Again, I have often said I don't give a darn where our players come from. It just seemed like these LR kids were a good place to start when thinking about who we might sign out of the transfer portal.
