It’ll be easy to see that he’s not yet qualified for an assistant role when you see the recruiting wins and connections of the rumored 3rd guy. Very impressive. If DerMarr really wants to be a coach he should head back to the DMV and use his local ties and work his way up.

Yeah, DerMarr definitely interviewed and wants to be on staff. He shared a post last night from the GoBEARCATS Twitter for season ticket renewals. I hope he gets a position.

Yeah, having a former Bearcat with the basketball pedigree of Dermarr Johnson would be a fantastic addition. I hope Dermarr works his way up into a bench role for the Bearcats one day.

It would also send a strong message to the bball alumni that Wes took their Zoom conversation to heart and that he wants to give opportunities to former players to work their way up the coaching ladder. I think it's incredibly important for programs to have strong engagement from former players which helps on and off the court.

Regardless of if he gets a staff job or not pretty cool how loyal Dermarr is to UC considering he spent less than 1 year here.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's A.J. McGinnis as well. He could be a nice building block for the future. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basket...j-mcginnis

I'm good with this. It gives us our 4th sophomore, and helps with balance. Unfortunately, it may also means the Frederick is unlikely. Need to focus now on a physical 4/5 who can make an immediate impact.

We needed to stabilize [from a free fall] both the coaching staff and the roster ASAP. That has been accomplished and the linkages to UNCG/Wes Miller tree makes sense. Now, pieces [both coaches and the roster] can be added strategically, methodically with less pressure/time crunch.

RE: Andre Morgan Hired as Basketball Assistant Coach
I don't want to make a habit in future seasons of grabbing SoCon transfers, but I do find it encouraging that so many guys want to continue playing for him. We now have some stability and continuity, both with bringing Saunders/Madsen back, and bringing in some guys who already know his system and have good relationships. The UNCG guys didn't play huge minutes, and yet not only did they not go to the portal while Miller was still there -- they followed him to his next destination. I think that says a lot about how players feel about playing for him. McGinnis (if he's the new commit) and Hensley won't need to play big minutes this year, but they also seem to love playing for Coach Miller and will be willing to wait their turn while they develop. Our staff will be free to take big swings on high-level transfers (like they're doing with CJ Fredrick) and I expect a solid 2022 recruiting class.

Well, UNCG did play sweet 16 Florida St. to a ten point game in the NCAA first round.

... I don't think our team from last year could've done that.

So UC now has UNCG's 5th, 7th, and 9th leading scorers on their team. That doesn't fill me with a lot of hope.

With 1000 guys in the transfer market and UC having ample playing time available, Wes can't grab a couple of higher end guys?

These kids he's recruited and knows them and how they fit together. There has to be a blend of familiarity/continuity with the UC returnees and kids that he feels can raise their floor/ceiling in the next several years. That said, how many roster spots do we still have open?

Agreed. And the two recent commits were both freshman on a very experienced roster. With Banks on scholarship, we have two remaining. With a solid core established, Miller can now pursue the a final impact player. Well done so far.

There’s potentially still 5 open scholarships left. What’s wrong with filling the depth of the roster with guys that already fit the style/culture that he believes can play here? Establishing the culture is more important than just adding a bunch higher end guys that might not fit. I’d rather be more selective with the playing time at the 3 and 5 once the staff is all together.

Former player at USF...

Quote:Chad Dollar, an Atlanta native with more than two decades of college coaching experience, was named an assistant coach for the Georgia Bulldogs in April 2018.

Dollar came to Georgia after spending the previous season on the staff at South Florida, where he played during the 1990s. Dollar’s résumé includes stints within the SEC at LSU and Auburn.

The Dollar name is a familiar one within Georgia basketball circles. Chad’s father, Don, won more than 650 games and three state titles as a high school coach, primarily at Frederick Douglass High in Atlanta. Chad was an all-city performer in 1989 and a second-team all-state honoree in 1990. He and six of his Douglass High School teammates went on to sign Division I scholarships.

Dollar spent the 2016-17 season at Auburn, where the Tigers tallied their most wins (18) since 2008-09, and the the five seasons prior to that (2011-16) at Georgia Tech. Dollar was an assistant coach for his first three seasons with the Yellow Jackets before spending the final two as associate head coach.

Dollar was on the staff at Wichita State for the 2010-11 campaign when the Shockers won the NIT and finished 29-8. He spent three seasons as an assistant coach under John Brady, two at Arkansas State (2008-10) and one at LSU (2007-08). Dollar also coached at Murray State (2006-07), Georgia Southern (2002-06), Eastern Kentucky (2000-02) and Western Carolina (1998-2000).

Dollar began his coaching career at Gardner-Webb, serving as a volunteer assistant for one season and a graduate assistant for another. He then moved to the staff at Southern Miss for the 1996-97 season when the Golden Eagles finished 22-11 and reached the NIT.

Dollar also spent two summers coaching with Athletes in Action, assisting with selection of players and conducting of the team’s training camps. In 1997, Dollar traveled with AIA to Macedonia and Croatia, while in 2001 he ventured to the Ivory Coast.

Dollar was a three-year letterwinner at South Florida from 1990-93, including teams that reached the 1991 NIT and the 1992 NCAA Tournament. He completed his collegiate playing career at Milligan College (Tenn.). Dollar distributed a what was then school-record 194 assists during the 1994-95 season while helping lead the Buffaloes to a 24-12 finish and their first-ever appearance in the NAIA Tournament.

Dollar earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Milligan in 1996. Dollar and his wife Kyla have three children – daughters Aliyah and Chloe and a son, Darian.

Dollar’s younger brother, Cameron, played at UCLA and helped the Bruins to the 1995 NCAA Championship and is currently an assistant coach at the University of Washington.
