So Wes is going to win so bigly with SoCon players that the ACC is going to come calling? Got it, dosser.

We were down to what 4 guys a couple weeks ago? You think they were quaking over that?

Getting warm bodies is good for us. But 2 of these guys should contribute right away and the other was highly rated by recruiting services that hopefully will be a good player. Nobody is being irrational. We're just not ripping on everything that is being done.

Huggs brought Anthony Buford from Akron.
Brannen brought Chris Vogt from Northern Kentucky.
Wes brought two kids due to a depleted roster.
Makes sense.

I said this on the "Miller-time" success thread: "Year 1" is all about establishing a team and a culture. It's not necessarily about "winning the conference" right out of the chute.

If Wes Miller can use these guys to establish the core of the team going forward and instill a solid culture...I'm good with that.

The "transfer portal" has fundamentally changed the game. What's good for the goose ought to be good for the gander.

Spare me the straw-man BS. it's tiring. I never said anything like that.

Quote:Getting warm bodies is good for us. But 2 of these guys should contribute right away and the other was highly rated by recruiting services that hopefully will be a good player. Nobody is being irrational. We're just not ripping on everything that is being done.

While you're at it, maybe take it easy on the self-serving drama. I am not "ripping on everything that is being done". Just suggesting a few here might want to pump the brakes a little on the celebrations in the interest of objectivity. But per my comments above, I'll take unobjective celebration over unobjective negativity around here all day long.

If "warm bodies" is where you want to set the bar, there's going to be plenty of those to go around. Many arounder here, perhaps including yourself, have talked repeatedly about how many players are going to be looking for seats when the music stops and most chairs are filled.

I don't really care much about whether a guy technically made the top 150 or not, but in the interest of fact-checking what are the recruiting services that rate him highly? Yes rivals has him 149th but that's just a 3* and I don't think they even did a thumbnail write-up on him best as I can tell. Who else? Best as I can tell 247 never even bothered to rate him. Same with ESPN and/or scout. I'd like to read more about what you found detailing his high hs ratings.

Branned trashed the program. I will celebrate salvation in any form at this point.

RE: Jarrett Hensley
Brannen left 4 players and no recruits. That’s a fact. Odds are you’re not going to bounce back from that quickly, so next year will be tough. You fill out the roster for next year as best you can and start recruiting hard for the years after that. That’s the real test.

Anyone know why he only got 6.8 MPG last season? I mean sure, he was a thin freshman, but you might expect a highly-ranked guy like him to play on talent alone. Also took more 3s than 2s which I can't say I'm crazy about given the need for interior scoring.

Oh well... in Miller we trust.

My guess it’s because he was skinny as a rail, could not work out due to Covid and they had older guys who had 40 lbs on him.

He’ll need to beef up before he gets big minutes here, too.

Pretty much all this. Their starting 4 was 6'9", 240. I love this addition, so long as we bring in another big and a wing who can contribute right away. Hensley can get spot minutes and learn this year. We'll likely use four or five guys to graduation next year (depending on who comes in still), so he'll have an opportunity for minutes in 2022-23.

OK Hawkeye, let me say this.

I've met Billy Bearcat before, and just let me say, in no way should any of us mistake him for having old man skills 03-lmfao

RE: Jarrett Hensley
3*, 4*, 22* who cares? If memory serves, every recent coach back to Huggs has been successful taking talented 3* and molding a team that won conference championships, conference tournaments and got to the Big Dance. If coach Miller does returns UC to that level I'll be happy. And the 4* and occasional 5* will follow.

If we really believe that all it takes to become a perennial Top 20 or Top 15 coach is a 3 year plan and a couple key recruits, then we are a delusional fan base. With all due respect, there are 300+ D1 hoops programs, many with far more resources and just as storied a history as ours. If it was that "easy" to be a regular Top 20 program/Big Dance program I'm sure a lot more of them would have figured it out.

I too would have like more deep Tourney runs but the sustained success UC coaches have achieved over the last 30+ years is huge. Coach Miller has my backing as long as he shows progress. I don't need to see old school clanging (shooting) and banging (rebounding and D) Bearcat teams. I'm perfectly happy with a runnin' gunnin' style or anything in between, as long as it is fundamentally sound. Coach Miller, you do you.

Jarrett, welcome to the Bearcat family. Let's hope you're the next Gary Clark or Kenyon or Steve Logan that makes the rest of college hoops say wow, where'd they find that guy. Go 'Cats.

RE: Jarrett Hensley
Billy’s role on the floor would be to goad the other team’s best player into punching him to earn a flagrant 2.

He’ll be the team crash test dummy.

Wasn’t the UNCG team pretty veteran last year? And made the tourney? Probably not a ton of minutes for a frosh when every game matters fighting for that NCAA bid.

I bet our strength and conditioning folks will see to it that Hensley isn't so skinny when the season debuts next fall. Let's be patient and see what happens.
