First MAC Intraconference Basketball Transfer
The First MAC Intraconference Basketball Transfer occurred today when Northern Illinois’ leading scorer, Tyler Cochran announced he was transferring to Ball St. Cochran averaged 15 points & 7 rebounds last season. Ball St is desperate for players as their 3 best players (Walton, El-Amin & Coleman) have transferred out since the end of the season.

Wow this is a big one. Wonder if NIU has any transfers coming in that persuaded his decision. Did he say why he's transferring?

Here's the second intra-conference transfer: Ball State's KJ Walton is going to Akron

He just improved his chances of getting to the Big Dance.

I just see a lot of back door dealings going on trying to get kids to transfer in creating a possible super MAC team, whether it be Akron, UB or Toledo for example.

Now that so many players are transferring, it would be detrimental to the league to continue the rule of not allowing intra-conference transfers. Walton and the NIU guy would have transferred outside the conference, and the conference would be weaker. There could be just as many back room deals among MAC players to create a Horizon League super-team. Nothing stops players from talking to each other about where they are planning to transfer or, for that matter, where they are going to attend initially as freshmen.

I'm not a big fan of either player. i think Walton is a bit overrated and Cochran only had 15 and 7 because his team sucked and was one of the only fairly consistent effort and production guys they had. Akron needed a bit of a veteran playmaker so this is a solid pickup for them. Groce is a bit of nut and not afraid to rub other MAC coaches the wrong way. Whitford can't complain though as he did the same thing first.
