I know that winning will bring more fans to the games, but what other things can be done to improve attendence, especially season ticket holders? Looking for ideas. Here are some of my ideas.

1) Free beer! Just kidding...there is not enough seats for everyone that would take advantage of that.
2) Good Rock Concert after the game for only those attending the game
3) Some kind of contest during halftime where someone gets a chance to kick a field goal or something for a car or some other prize. Maybe a date with a cheerleader (hetrosexual only)
4) Cut down on the profanity...bad for the family crowd. Hard to do with all the drinking.
5) Make it cool to be at the game by having celebrities in plain view for people to see.
6) WIN! WIN! WIN! 03-nutkick

Don't like most of those ideas, makes it sound like a Pro Game.

But, if it works, go ahead. UCF is a new school and doesn't have many traditions to bring people in.

Big name teams in the Citrus Bowl.

Virginia Tech rolls through...high attendence
Syracuse...not bad

next year WVU...year after LaTech...year after that...NCSU (courtesy of Essency's Football Page)

Orsini needs to regulate!

who else has there been in the last 5 years? Marshall? Bleah!
C-USA will help having some southern teams.

We can only dream of having a team such as Penn State visiting. i believe we have to guarantee them a gate based on at least 40,000 seats being sold. Maybe Florida or Florida State because their fans could travel and fill the Citrus Bowl without any UCF fans there at all. I wonder if USF would really generate any real interest even if they ever grew a nice set of foot-BALLS and decided to play us?

I like the wet T shirt contest.

If I'm not mistaken, USF and UCF recently agreed to a home/away match up in the very near future (either '05/'06 or '06/'07). By then, this game should draw enough interest to get 30-40 thousand. Search the Orlando Slantinel or Tampon Trib for more info. Also, Miami is coming to Orlando in a few years, so that should be a good draw.

And I agree with BlackNGold. Better teams will draw more fans. Winning doesn't mean crap when you're beating up on low life I-AA or I-A teams. UCF went 9-3 one year with Culpepper and attendance sucked because he was beating crap teams. The VaTech and Syracuse games were the best games I've been to (even though VaTech killed us and SU had a huge come back win) because they actually felt like a real college football game, and not some high school championship. Win or lose, a packed house is a lot more fun. Seen UCF at Penn State and VaTech this year, lost both games, but had a blast.

Hope to better attendance was a big motivator to join C-USA over MAC. The Big East's largest attendance generators will be in the ACC next year. USF may have an attendance boost, but I am unsure how much. WVU, BC, and Pitt are their best hope. O'Leary and his new staff will definatately have an impact on attendance. It looks like Orsini Bean Counting (CPA) back ground may pay off for UCF. I definately see healthy rivalries developing between UCF and ECU, Marshall, and USM. Those 3 teams are gathering a large following. Hopefully the conference shuffle may bring better OOC games into Orlando as well. I am very anxious watching this stuff.

What was the largest crowd to watch a UCF home game? I thought it was the game when they had the "Blues Traveler" concert.

The record crowd at a UCF home game is 50,220 against Virginia Tech on November 11, 2000. VaTech was ranked #8 in the country at the time, and Michael Vick was on that team but did not play due to injury. VaTech pounded UCF 44-21 like they always do.

The largerst crowd ever to see a UCF game was at Penn State on August 31, 2002. The attendance was 103,029 and I was at that game. Talk about college football atmosphere. PSU beat UCF 27-24, and the game was on ESPN. UCF goes to Penn State in 2005 for another crack at the Nittany Lions. Should be another good road trip.

I was at the UCF/Virginia Tech game but did not make it up to Penn State. Where do you find the attendance records?

Thanks

I believe we get Penn St. the third game of the next year 2004. If I remember correctly we open at Wisconsin, play WV at home, and then travel to Penn St. Hopefully George can pull out a victory or two out of those three games. :D

That's correct. We play at PSU on September 18, 2004. I look forward to this road trip again.

Just got back from my son's graduation at Penn State. He recieved his degree in chemical engineering and has fortunately recieved a job offer already.

It was disappointing that Penn State had it worst record in 30 or 40 years. It just shows you that ANYTHING is POSSIBLE. I hope to go to the UCF/Penn State game next year. Anyone else going?

I think #6 is the most important one you listed by far . . . as far as increasing attendance, that is.
