Is the announcement 11 Central Time? Sounds like most here have already given up on this guy.

He chose Michigan.. Let's see how it pans out to him.

Honestly, no loss here for Memphis.. Jones come across as a flaky individual.. Either this guy will play for Michigan or he will end up in the NBA G League/overseas.. I am leaning toward the latter.

But adding a bigger elite or near elite point guard, as applies to every team in the country, would be a big deal

All five returnees will be in the rotation
Lomax, Lester, Williams, Dandridge and Nolley
As will Timberlake and Harris
After that we will see. Some of the other players may be exceptional, we simply do not know right now who will elevate
Adding a Jones for example probably gives an 8th rotation player with Lomax coming off the bench for solid minutes. But if Lomax is our starter, we will still be a good team

Let's just pray that this is NOT the case.....

I'm hoping Knox maybe reclassifies or we land someone that can play pg we haven't heard yet. Lomax may be a great kid but if he is our point guard or one the Lawsons is, we will not be the team we have the potential to be.. He should be nothing but a backup.

I agree Lomax is not elite level. But characterizing him as nothing but a backup seems too much

Moreso, if you have a strong enough point that a Lomax is a backup you are in damn good shape.

Yes, adding elite level players is nice and we want that

How many decent point guards are there in the portal? I'm feeling confident Penny will get us one of those.

If Penny is still looking to add a transfer PG, the top 5 left are:

Marcus Carr Minnesota
Adam Miller Illinois
Sahvis Wheeler Georgia
Rocket Watts Michigan State
Jordan Hall St.Joseph’s

Marcus Carr is a stud.. but you take the chance of him skipping college as Jalen Green did to Memphis last year.

We have to have more than one point guard so I'm sure will add one more from somewhere.

I’m sure Tyler can help out with that when needed.

I was researching this kid from Georgia, too.. and I am wondering the same.. Sure, he is not tall.. He is only 5'10 but he is pretty much unstoppable.. Stocky PG.

Hope Penny is after this kid.. At least he is an inch taller than Lomax LOL

I'm pretty sure we will pick up another point guard. Worst case scenario, we run the offense through Williams when Lomax isn't on the floor.

He's quick, very talented, excellent distributor & offensive threat ..... but he's about 5'9". I think he's listed at 5'10-11" in some places but standing next to him that's a stretch. Very talented & tenacious but we already have an ample collection of short guards.

Ehh.. top 5 in the country last year in Turnovers and a mediocre to poor shooter from both 3 and the FT line. Pass.

What we currently have has to be VERY close to those stats if NOT worse.......We had gobs of turnovers and was last in foulshot percentages......I'm not necessarily advocating, I just don't think were in a place to turn our noses up.....

Our problem as the roster stands now is we can't defend a Jarreau-type at the PG. LQ is a high level defender but not quick enough to stay in front of a high level PG. And it's down hill from there. Use one of the short guards and a Jarreau-type will shoot over him or post him up. We need a quick PG with some height, who can defend without giving advantage defensively, who can distribute & be a perimeter threat at the same time - yes a high level PG, if we want more than a 2nd Rd exit.
