RE: Greg Lee just entered Transfer Portal
Doubled his ppg and his reb average after it stayed pretty consistent for 4 years in the WAC (with same minutes) seems as if he got quality coaching
Will/would be preseason all league guy (1st or 2nd team)
Adding pieces around him with better ones on the verge
Publicly said he was staying
Strange decision
Plus, he's not a grad transfer (which verbal commits said) because he was already a grad transfer and free year due to covid only (if he stays i believe)

By the new NCAA rules doesn’t Lee need to plead hardship since he has already transferred once before?
Seems like Mike Flowers is in same situation

Does his departure open up another place on the roster?

Yes
WMU staff are recruiting.
Unfortunately D1 recruiting is still remote.

Too bad about Lee. He became a very valuable player. I thought he and B. Artis would be the keys to turning next season around.

RE: Greg Lee just entered Transfer Portal
Do you think Greg is envisioning openings at programs like Michigan State where they have new kids coming in much like the “new kids” they brought in 3 yrs ago but now left having not delivered?

An older more stable steady hand? I mean IZZO still has to win. He can’t say well “I’m building up” with freshman. I know there’s Marble and Bingham. But what if they done of any note? Nothing!

Just thinking out loud as to what Greg might be thinking or hearing from others.

RE: Greg Lee just entered Transfer Portal
I find this move really curious for a couple reasons. First, he publicly stated that he was staying and 2, if he planned on transferring why did he wait until now to enter the portal. I wonder if something happened that we don't know about?

IMHO everyone's tampering, if that's what you're asking?

Nothing happened on wmu end, except the staff getting kicked in the nuts HARD.

But again, history may repeat itself (and now with the new rule) there may be something made up to try and get him a waiver/elig if he does leave.

The really strange thing is he's throwing away his clearest/smoothest path to a lucrative career overseas which is repeat/improve on last year's numbers and win games. That puts two solid years on paper (negating the 3 mediocre years at UCB, plus shows he was part of something being built). Do that and have a solid first year in Germany/Spain/Italy at a entry level and you're on your way to a 10 year stint where you come back with a house and cash and investment opportunities. Shayne is buying commercial real estate while still making bank overseas.

What’s gonna happen (in the mids) is kids are going to quickly realize the home school is gonna immediately replace you. So when it doesn’t go how you plan... you have no go back plan.

That list is generous in my opinion
I suspect he'll choose between Penn St and ECU.
Maybe I'm wrong.

RE: Greg Lee just entered Transfer Portal
Good for Greg. He earned the opportunity. I get the disappointment any WMU fan would have. While here a good ambassador. He surprised me with his level of play. IMO better than Brandon Johnson.

To Greg's point in a comment on twitter the the Big 10 offers challenges that aren't found elsewhere. A great chance to prove his ability is consistent to perform at that level.

I think the staff has done a great job in elevating skill level and athleticism. If Greg had stayed and others remain healthy and played to capability it wouldn't of surprised me that Greg may have had some minutes pared back. That said, McMillian and Hastings have to be healthy. Considering roster I would be comfortable with 4 out and 1 in. It would free up Titus with 4 shooters/scorers spacing the floor. You'd give up size at the 4 defensively. But you could make adjustments like extending out 75-90', zone, match up, triangle and two.

I think you can expect an uptick from Danny Kolp too. Athletic, can pass, will defend. Like Titus needs the 15' short corner, elbow and near wing J added to skill set.
