A lazy post having nothing to do with the facts. In the AAC Tournament and the NIT, he shot for a high percentage from the field even though he was bad from 3 point range; he had 3 assists per game with only 1.7 turnovers, rebounded well and scored 12 points per game.

He improved his playmaking, decision making and shot selection 100% at the end of the season. He played very good defense and made effort plays and key plays when we needed them.

Yep, DJ really looked like he had figured out what Penny wanted/expected of him. I hate to see him go, but I wish him the best against everyone but us.

From Penny’s press conference today...

“Obviously you want players that can fit the system, players that want to come in and do what it takes to win ballgames,” Hardaway said. “That’s first and foremost. You don’t want to get guys that are needy, that need 20 shots or 30 minutes, that’s not our style of how we play.
“The biggest thing about the next two spots is getting guys that understand what this is all about. It’s about sacrifice, it’s about joining a group of guys that are pretty good and adding their talents to that to have a common goal of winning championships. Whether it’s conference or NCAA or whatever it is.”

What passes CAN he catch though? Dude was fumbling chest passes too.

This...or when he did catch it cleanly he was walking or throwing up bricks. He had his moments though so hopefully he will come back and continue to develop.

100%. You don't drive the lane and throw the ball in the guys stomach. Cisse would have averaged 2-4 more ppg if guys just threw the ball up.

If you cannot catch a ball at your waist it is not the guys fault throwing you the pass.

Disagree. It is their fault. Every big man will tell you to throw it high. It's what they expect. It's also good fundamental basketball.

It appears Jared Jackson, Jr understood this line of thinking. 22 minutes, 11.2 pts, 5.8 rebs netted a Big10 championship and #4 overall pick. 6.6 shots per and 5th leading scorer on team. If you can play, they’ll find you.

Likely a statement with two-fold meaning. Could very well be talking about DJ. Also a message to the Lawsons, who seem to be slow-walking Penny - possibly for leverage.

Penny knows what he wants and how to get it.

It appears he's figuring out how to build a team and not just accumulate talent.

I really don’t get the position argument. Penny has more freedom with positions than any coach in the country; to the critique of many on here. Does he think Ben Howland of all coaches has more freedom ?

It certainly sounded like he complained about being asked to play the 4... though he believed he should have played the 3. It sounded like minutes were an issue and personal goals were ultimately more important than team goals.

None of these guys will be featured players in pro ball...if fortunate enough to earn a paycheck playing this game... and all will be asked to accept a role for the betterment of the team. If I were a pro scout, that would be a RED flag.

For well over 1/2 of last season, this team was considered one of the most selfish, dysfunctional squads in college basketball; and finally after putting personal goals aside, and playing their best basketball of the year, some decided that evolution was not enough. Our team will be better without them.

DJ for sure can't have complaints about minutes, but for sure didn't like playing the 4. Your last paragraph is 100% accurate, especially as it applies to DJ. Boogie went closer to home and will be in a dogfight for minutes. Baugh saw the writing on the wall and knew that he would have his minutes slashed dramatically next year.

DJ went to a dead end program to play for a desperate coach who has become post Kentucky Tubby Smith.

Parrish said on his show that Howland really thought he had him coming out of high school. I guess he didn’t burn his bridge after failing to get him in 2019.

Playing the 3...

What the heck does that mean...He was a perimeter player on offense. A wing...Just like Nolley was...

Only difference between him and Nolley is DJ had to guard the bigger player. If DJ had an issue with that than he needs to toughen up.

Why on earth would he want to play for Ben Howland? Watching paint dry is more exciting than watching his offense.
