Burno FAIL
Letting Cochran go is a FAIL. Burno should have been kissing Cochran's ass. That he let Cochran get away tells me it is more about Burno's ego than winning. God help NIU because Burno ain't. Say what you want about Monty at least he never let Gino get away. To think 20-21 was a good season comparatively to what 21-22 will be!

Wow. Talk about an over-reaction with a HUGE leap to an unwarranted conclusion. Cochran is a nice player, no more, no less, but, hardly a player on Gino’s level. And just how do you know Gino stays if Monty is fired after Gino’s sophomore season? Also, until this year, Gino would have had to sit out a year......completely different circumstances. There are nearly 2,000 players in the transfer portal, roughly 5.5 per program. It is a new world of free agency in college athletics.

This seems to me to be a completely unfair criticism of Coach Burno.

RE: Burno FAIL
I agree with HuskieDave. Cochran was a good player on a very bad team and his numbers may reflect that. There’s a good chance no one on this board knows the reason for TC’s transfer. I hope it is not a case of the wrong people telling him bad information that makes him think he will move to a higher level of basketball Without losing significant playing time. It might be he does not want to go through the rebuilding process. maybe he wantsto go somewhere where he can win more sooner.
The early returns suggest Coach Burno is doing well on the recruiting trail. I believe there a good possibility that whoever gets Tyler’s scholarship will have at least as good if not a better career at Northern than Cochran has or would have had.

+ 1

Every coach gets a chance to get his guys. If Cochran wasn't on board (who knows) then ..... ?

Burno FAIL
I loved Cochran's heart and talent but I'm OK with giving Burno more than 2 months before being overly critical. Monty got 10 years.

Technical foul05-nono Don’t sound like a bitter parent of a player. We were arguably the worst basketball program in the nation last year. It’s not like he gave up Abdul Nader or Marshawn Wilson. Give the guy a season and a recruiting class before you cancel him.

But Monty let the Great Zach Miller get away, so there! Just think what Monty's program would have been if he kept the Great Zach Miller and hired the Great Zach Miller's dad as an Assistant Coach.

RE: Burno FAIL
Big deal. So one somewhat talented player enters the portal. Check out the portal and you'll see plenty. Happens all the time. Going to happen more with the no-sit-out-per-one-transfer rule. Their choices.

As for NIU, frees up a slot for someone Burno wants and who wants to be here. And who wants a coach who kisses anybody's behind? Not a good habit for a coach just starting. And who wants a player whose butt needs kissing? Not a team player.

As for Cochran, individually, don't know his motives so can only say it's his choice. No blame to him. Wish him the best.

yeah, TC as a sophomore being the best player NIU had, no big deal losing him since we sucked anyway. That just frees up a spot to get a better player!!! Freakin hilarious.
On a more positive note maybe Hammock in his upcoming 3rd season can squeak out a win! I'm sure it was tough taking over a MAC championship winning team and going winless in his second season but the bright side is one win would be an improvement! Burno and Hammock are great recruiters or at least that is what is often said.
But hey, at least the Cubs are in 1st place, uh, er, no wait, LAST place??? Oh, well.

Id like to think a conversation was had with Cochran being told he’s wanted here. If it comes out that nothing was said, I’d agree it’s an oversight/failure. Operating under the premise he was told we wanted him back- Either Cochran was genuinely not interested in returning to the school/program in which case he was gone no matter what OR he wanted to be more heavily coaxed into a return. If I’m the new coach in that position I’m not begging someone to stick around especially when it’s understood the program needs a total reset. Just my 2 cents

RE: Burno FAIL
The urban dictionary says that El Duderino is a “person that was most likely picked on in school so he seeks revenge by harassing others with greater intelligence and wit.” Sounds about right. With such constant negativity, this dude projects as one miserable sumbitch. Do you ever have anything worthy to contribute? How can any reasonable person be down on Coach Burno already. Seems to me he is busting his butt to make this program better.

Such are the expectations when you choose to join this program and try and raise the bar set by a Ricardo Patton and a Mark Montgomery.
