RE: Mike Saunders is returning
We have 7 scholarships to fill not including the remaining UC players in the portal.

If you can find guys that are as good or better, grab them. If Vogt is healthy he only occupies a spot for a year. If he can give 10-12 solid minutes a game and actually rebounds, I have no problem with him taking up one of those 7 spots for a single year while we even out classes.

Maybe all Vogt needs is a little coaching.

I mean, the guy's 7' for gosh sakes. 7'ers just don't grow on trees.

Vogt was solid before he hurt his shoulder his junior year, and has struggled with it ever since. Not saying he's a great fit in Coach Miller's system or even a starting-caliber AAC player, but he's not a bum like many make him out to be. Also, he really improved defensively after the COVID pause. He was much quicker on help defense, which seemed to indicate an increased awareness.

You've had it out for Vogt since he got here. Nothing wrong with being critical in your opinions on a message board, but you take every chance you can to take a shot at Vogt. I've always found it a bit odd/over the top. Sometimes I wonder if you're a relative or friend of Diarra.

I mean if it’s either Dou or Vogt, you almost have to take Dou. Miller presses 3/4 court after made baskets. One of those two guys fits that system and it’s probably not Vogt. But like I said, unless there are better options, having him in a support role for one year is not terrible. I wouldn’t mind seeing Dou at the top of a press for his 2 remaining seasons of eligibility. The last guy’s system was just a terrible fit for him. Too bad because he’s a great young man. .

Saunders could be a really good basketball player.

Dou has talent. He could be good if things clicked. We’ve seen it in stretches a few years back. Just seemed like he wanted to be somewhere else this season. It would do him a lot of good to add some weight too. Seems like we probably won’t see him again but I’d welcome him back.

By all accounts Dou is a great athlete, congenial teammate, and an all around good guy. But in his years here progress was really slow in developing basketball skills and he would never challenge to start. As a reserve he often found himself back on the bench in quick foul trouble. He's moved on; maybe Miller should too in this regard.

I'm inclined to say the same for Vogt--his service was appreciated as a Bearcat when post players were in short supply. But the portal is still well stocked and even a serviceable starter who logged lots of minutes in the post--even in the MAC or Sun Belt, might be a better option on a team with a returning backcourt that should be competitive with most of UC's opponents.

I'll be surprised if Tari comes back. And will Miller re-recruit recent Brannen commit Bryson Spell? I liked what I read about him but I'd be surprised if he's a "ready now" player at this level. But Miller may need a couple of freshmen still to begin balancing the classes and Miller's NC/ACC connections may prove helpful here.
