Thanks to those who helped provide the private funding for his increased retention bonus.

Chris Jans is making nearly $600,000 before bonuses. That's big time.

That buyout is concerning tbh. Not going to scare any schools away. Hell, UTEP could easily pay that.

Concerning just how much nmsu believes in rewarding their coach/demigod for bad behavior. The guy obviously wants out, but no other program *truly* wants him, so you desperately keep overpaying him to stay? Shameful.

LOL! He is a heck of a coach, and while I will admit that NMSU fans (myself probably included) can be a bit sensitive, he does deserve to be compensated considering his record at NMSU. We (NMSU fans) have been jilted so much in the past from NOT paying enough that I can understand why a lot of us are that way.

As for the buyout, I think you have to realize it is a negotiation. Since we probably are not paying him what I think he is worth, we have to give in other areas. This may just be that one area that we can give on, and it doesn't really cost us much. I'm not sure buyout money really affects the next coaches negotiations much.

GO AGGIES!!!!

I’d say he gets a pass for a less stellar COVID year record and deserves whatever NMSU can come up with in compensation.

If you are talking about wins in the NCAA tournament, I do see your point. That said, when you get high seeds, it is pretty difficult to get that W.

I am hopeful that with the new additions (yes, that includes Tarleton, IT) that we, as a group, can improve our seeding in the tournament that can help lead to a W or two.

GO AGGIES!!!!
