MyBB WBB Transfer In
First transfer in announced:

Jayda Jansen, 5'9 G from DII Maryville U (Missouri). Originally from Wisconsin. Will be a JR.

Avg 19 points per game this past season, shooting 39% from 3. Conference defensive player of the year. 55 steals in 21 games.

OK, not a big, but sounds like the type of player Cullop likes - good defensive player who can shoot the three.

When I saw the heading, I thought please let it be a 6-2 forward. Anyway, good luck to her. Must be something in the water at Savage.

2 more schollies available.

I too hope they find at least one big to sign, but this team really needed defensive help and guard depth is not all that deep right now, so this is probably a good signing.

Present depth chart might look something like this:

1: Wiard (SO), Doherty (Incoming FR)
2: Goss (FR), Jansen (JR), Perdue (FR)
3: Lockett (SO), Barnes (SO), Copeland (SR, if she is returning (name still on the roster))
4: Mikonowicz (FR), Idowu (FR), Curry (FR)
5: Cook (incoming FR), Bolser (FR), Lance (JR)

Solid transfer but still hoping a true post/taller forward or positionless 6ft up player lands here. Hope floats...

Agree, but it may be better than last year. It's hard to count on a freshman, but Cook has good credentials coming out of high school. I think that Lance will be ahead of Bolser, but neither will play much. Mostly likely, one of the power forwards will back up the center position, as happened last year.

Also, since the 2 and 3 positions are interchangeable, I expect to see Barnes as the primary back-up for both. Of course, it's really a guessing game as to whether Jansen and/or Doherty will be ready to contribute. If Doherty isn't ready, then we do not have a back-up point guard, which means that Lockett would have to back up that position.

We still have scholarships available, so let's see who else gets added.

I also have a good feeling about Cook. It would be helpful if someone, anyone, would comment on Bolser and let us know what her status is.

I don't think we can make much of player credentials. Take a look at the JC credentials for Cassie Colon who couldn't get off the bench.

"A 5-foot-9 guard, Colon averaged a team-high 22.3 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.8 steals in 23 games as a sophomore at the Community College of Philadelphia, a Division III member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). She shot 52.2 percent (198-of-379) from the floor, including 28.0 percent (28-of-100) from three-point land, and 71.2 percent (89-of-125) from the free throw line in 36.0 minutes. Colon scored in double figures on 20 occasions during the year, including a career-best 41 points against Delaware County on Dec. 10. She also totaled at least 20 points 16 times. For her efforts on the hardwood, Colon was named first-team All-Region XIX and the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC) Player of the Year for a second-straight season."

And it seems to me that it should be a little easier for coaches to project talent from JC level than high school level. Go figure.

26 ppg and first-team all-state is no guarantee, but it's certainly a reason to be optimistic.

Well, I figured some news was coming based on a cryptic Let's Go tweet from Coach Stephens on Sunday, and sure enough, here's your added post player:

6'5 C Hannah Noveroske from Indiana. She will be a SO. From in Michigan City, IN. Only saw spot action for IU in the occasional game her 1st two seasons. So, unclear yet how much help she will be.

https://utrockets.com/news/2021/4/27/wom...21-22.aspx

Still one more scholly available.

Some HS film. https://www.hudl.com/profile/5173341/Hannah-Noveroske

Well, they say you can't teach big, and she is definitely fits the definition of big. Reminds me a lot of Autumn Hudson of EMU. Has at least a 3 inch vertical. I don't know how you evaluate HS players like her, when she is at least a foot taller than almost all the players she is facing, and had most of her blocked shots standing flat on the floor.

Wasn't highly recruited out of HS, but was recruited by Stephens when he was at Xavier (hence the connection to UT). Had an offer from WMU and it seems, one from Cal St Bakersfield (huh?) Signed with Xavier, but when there was a coaching change there, was released (one article implied the new coach didn't want her.) IU had recruited her, but didn't have a scholly available, but she was later able to sign with Indiana instead, because Linsey Marchese transferred to Kent State (who is also now transferring again.)

Stat line at IU in 2 seasons reads 22 games played, 86 total minutes, 24 points, 29 rebounds and 9 blocks. 50% from the field, 22% from the line - yikes.

Looking at Autumn Hudson as a comparison, she has improved a lot for EMU since she was a freshman, but is still very limited in her impact. So, I don't know. Depends on how much she has improved her game while at IU. Hopefully she can contribute, but my bet is still for Cook to start from day 1.

RE: WBB Transfer In
So, what does UT do, if anything, with the last scholarship. Lots of players still out there, and Cullop likes to have a full roster (which was especially important this year, since they didn't hire any male practice players, due to COVID testing costs.)

I was really hoping for the grad transfer big from Furman, Celena Taborn, who is from nearby Sidney, OH. Had a big career there.

I also see Nan Garcia, 6'0 FR wing from Penn State (Jeffersonville, IN) is transferring. I know UT had offered her. She did not get a lot of playing time her 1st season at PSU.

Schools are still signing incoming freshman too, as CMU just announced they signed three. Oh, and by the way, remember Arieonna Ware? She signed with Fort Wayne.

Not sure how I feel about this. I can see Cook being pretty good as a center, but as a forward I don't see her being able to handle 6-1 athletic MAC forwards. Where does Noveroske fit in? In her HS video she was slow. Has she put the time in the weight room and become a better athlete? And where oh where is 6-4 freshman Caily Bolser?

For a not "highly" recruited player to gain a Big Ten roster spot, something had to be right, right? Mobility will be important if she is to contribute to the team. I've no doubt she will contribute to the University. A near 4.0 in High School and gained IU acceptance? Here's a quote from her high school recruiting profile.

Quote:I want to continue my journey after high school at a university that will help me increase my effectiveness as a health care administrator and be able to use my given talents for the betterment of my community. I want to accomplish great achievements both individually and as a team. I want to better my skill set, broadened my experiences, increase my capabilities, and diversify my talents. With that spring board of opportunity, I hope to positively contribute to my profession, my community that I will live in, and give back to the schools that have helped support me.
