I never heard any one especially Penny say a bad word about coach Toppert much less throw him under the bus.

Depends on how you look at it.

Did he do it directly...No

Was it as big a deal as this poster makes it out to be no.

But Penny did essentially say the offense that was stagnating early in the season was Topperts offense and Penny was going to take it over.

He didn’t criticize Toppert’s offense. Perhaps he recognized that time was running out for them to fully grasp it. After all, they had little prep before the start of the season. So he simplified things.

I could be wrong but I think Penny was frustrated because he himself didn't know all the nuances of the new offense and struggled coaching the team during games without understanding it completely which is why he changed to the offense he knew.

That's my interpretation of how things fell out too. I think that if they have a normal summer and pre-season camp this year it might give everyone - including Penny - time to fully absorb the offense and how to run it more effectively, if Cody is still on staff. Or they may just keep what they had working for them at the end of last season. Either way, I'm just glad we still have the players to run!

GRADUATE ASSISTANT MARDRACUS WADE is also heading to SC State with Madlock as an assistant coach

Former Cincinnati offensive lineman Jakari Robinson was one of Memphis' top options in the transfer portal, but the American Athletic Conference wouldn't allow him to transfer within the conference. After he heard that news, Robinson committed to Arkansas State and has now decommitted from Arkansas State on Tuesday night because AAC is eliminating the inter-conf transfer restrictions. Look for Robinson to commit to Memphis in the next couple of days. Big get.

It took me a second reread on the Jakari Robinson part. I was wondering why an offensive lineman was transferring to play for Penny. 03-lmfao

Yeah, that was a bit confusing.

x3, Did you mean that for a different thread? Great news either way.

RE: Coaching Changes on Basketball Staff ??
I've been thinking Penny might make a change at S&C coach. I know Rich came with high accolades. But I was very disappointed with how weak we looked around the rim to start the season. Maybe due to COVID, but we couldn't finish. At the same time, our conditioning did overwhelm people as seen in our pressing D all season. Part of that was Penny's rotations, but some credit needs to go to Rich. So I have mixed feelings whether he should go or not.

But doesn't Penny have a very close friend who is a trainer for a few pro athletes?

I don't see Penny taking a chance again on a offense he doesn't know.

No, the OP posted a Lead from a Premium source that had 3 pieces of information. Two from the lead were BB coaching changes and the third was the big transfer which happened to be football transfer not a BB.

Blame a tweet Headline. It’s the way sports breaks news these days.

Rich is out, and back to Texas. I'm not sad. COVID probably hurt us, but we came into the season unable to finish at the rim. Seemed weak.

Jevonte Holmes was the friend I was thinking about. Hope Penny looks outside his circle, but maybe this guy is the right fit?

Would Penny hire Raheem Shabazz as the new Strength / Conditioning Coach ? Believe he and Penny have worked together in the past ...

This is as good as Penny can do? Stop hiring friends and hire coaches who can help. It would be nice if he can get a guy with NBA coaching experience and then a veteran college coach. He needs to surround himself with experience. We were not good on the offensive end. Terrible shot selection and we didn’t value the ball. Obviously, he’s reloaded with talent but he needs help not friends. This isn’t a shot at Penny. It’s just the facts.
