WSJ on transfers.
I am sure the sophisticated adults, non basement dweller kids, on this thread have access to this WSJ article and therefore no need to post details of article.

RE: WSJ on transfers.
I'm a finance professor and I don't have a subscription to WSJ.

But it's probably because my office is in my parents' basement 3 months out of the year, and in my wife's basement the other 9. That's why I rely on Yahoo for all of my daily news.

RE: WSJ on transfers.
I just moved into a single family dwelling with a finished basement, but I'm just a lowly Communications and PR major. I am not a CFO, nor do I report to one, either on paper or in practice.

I have not yet retained counsel.

Imagine being so fragile that you just have to bring up politics on a college sports forum.

Bob, why did you leave the 247 board. You posted under the username Bcatbob there and signed all of your posts "Bob" at end of each post.

Nah. I'm a lowly director of recruiting and hiring with no financial acumen and live in the basement of my custom-built home.

~1300 players have entered the transfer portal so far; this represents:
- 28% of D1 players
- 104 schools have at least 5 players in the portal
- more than twice as many as transferred last year

Other key points:
- Freshmen basically got a free year to audition for better schools (just like playing a year at a post-HS boarding school)
- Far fewer seniors who normally would go pro to Europe or elsewhere will try to stick around for a free year of grad school or to wait out COVID travel restrictions until 2022
- Even non-professional league bound players wanting to enter the work force have a reason to come back as the job market is not as attractive as it may be next year
- Other sports are suffering, as women's basketball is seeing 1/6 players in the portal, while NCAA football has over 1400 players in the portal

I don't subscribe to the WSJ. Even though I live on the main floor of the house, I was able to retire 20 years ago at the age of 36 because I have a UC engineering degree.

I was kinda hoping we could go 2-3 pages deep of sarcastic responses to OP before anyone actually discussed the article. Maybe I’m just pissy because my house doesn’t have a basement.

RE: WSJ on transfers.
In my previous life, when I had employees who couldn’t present their opinion in a coherent manner (e.g., hand someone an article), I took that as a failure on my part. I failed to impart to their superior what I expected, I failed to make sure the qualifications I considered important during the hiring process were followed, or I allowed my reports to allow their reports to slide by and follow the path of intellectual sloppiness.

The OP might be well advised to spend two or three hours per day (not on the clock) writing reports, reviews, and evaluating other writings.

BTW, I am truly in my basement as I post this. I had surgery last month and I find it easier to get around down here. Not only that, I am no longer gainfully employed. I now remind myself of a song from the “Beatles For Sale” album - “I’m a Loser”.

I only read the WSJ because I dream of a better life - one day my family and I will make it out of the hidden sub-basement bunker of my wife's former employer...next stop - lower level and for my children's children, maybe even sunlight!

Oh good, a summary. Thanks!

Given those numbers, amazing how few UC football players are in the portal.

You understand you don't have to post about your lack of interest in a particular topic don't you? You are permitted to just move along.

Whole lotta crickets on this thread...should we let it die with no one actually reading or responding or caring to be called basement dweller by an internet grump?

I say no! Let's derail and get this so off topic that it ends up a Banter All Time Classic on the same scale as the realignment thread!
