Built-in wrong way
Between early departures for the NBA and the chaos created by transfers, the NCAA and the NBA have almost guaranteed that coaches will have to take shortcuts to be competitive. And the pressure to bring in talent quickly will make the temptation to cheat overwhelming for some of them. Shortcuts in recruiting. Shortcuts in coaching. You can't bring players along slowly any more. "Take your time and do it right" is a thing of the past. Why recruit a raw big man and make him into a player, because he is probably going to jump ship once you get him to where he might be able to play somewhere else? It is a MESS!

I don't like it, but we will just have to adapt.

I just can't believe that all these "great minds" at the top of the game can honestly believe this is the right way to do things.

Hate to sound pessimistic, but most of the great minds are gone and the only thing pushing the narrative now is money. Better teams equal more revenue. With what coaches get paid in D1 not many have the patience to wait for a winner, and with the transfer rule there is no reason to lose if you have resources.
If you want pure love of the game basketball there’s always d3.

Sadly, that is true. That or NAIA. Those kids play because they love the game. None of them are going to get rich playing. And the coaches probably won't ever make much, either. The quality of play obviously is very poor, and usually degenerates into playground ball, but they play hard.

There are two NCAA D3 schools in Arkansas (Ozarks and Hendrix) and six NAIA that have basketball (Central Baptist, Crowley's Ridge, JBU, Lyon, Philander and Williams).

What the smaller classifications may lack in quality of play they more than make up in levels of participation. Ozarks enrollment averages around 900 students. In only four of their 18 sports, they have 123 participants (assuming no overlapping), or 13% of the student body.

Central Baptist has an enrollment of around 600, and in softball and baseball alone over 8% of their student body are on the rosters.
