79 brings up a good point on McBride, that is at least one player that Coach Heath had to convince NOT to transfer. Also, as a follow up on my earlier comment, see linked video around the 1:30 mark. Coach Heath is not only asking the existing players to stay but to ALSO help recruit (this is the main example, but from other interviews as well).

I am not dismissing the experience of the player Jerry is referring to. But I have a feeling the story is not as cut and dry as the player’s personal perspective suggests.

Some players decided to transfer right after Murphy left and before a new coach was named. Chris James and Miles Gibson come to mind. They weren't staying no matter what. Lowder McBride and Binelli are all more complicated. Lowder was staying. Binelli was staying. McBride was leaving. Morgan was staying. And then after Heath was named coach that all changed the opposite. Also there are still 5 guys on the roster from last year. Any explanation for that? If you're going to run them off why not all of them?
Heath wants to run an up tempo offense vs a very deliberate weave offense, and man to man vs the zone! So, Heath is going to recruit what he considers his type of players! CC kept Some of English's players, and obviously the talent was there, they went 2-22 in his 1st two seasons! Hopefully, Heath can win by year 2..........

Bullseye '79! I urged the kid to stay but when the kid and his father started their rant about Heath, I found somewhere else to retire to. McBride came back and I have ZERO idea why Heath would want a zone guy like Spottsville returning so I immediately doubted the veracity of their assertions. Of course the departures of Binelli and Morgan then only bolstered their allegations.

When EMU called about the Stan Heath phone conversation, I just decided to decline to to take the call. At the end of the day, he is our coach, he cooks the meal and deserves to be able to determine the ingredients of such. I saw no reason to challenge him about the situation, yet I deeply appreciated him reaching out to season ticket holders. Let's see how he does.

They are all leaving successful programs to rebuild at EMU. Trice is a Penn alumni who took his team to the tourney, 13 years coaching a traditional mid major powerhouse in Temple, spends last year at Colgate who makes the tourney. Denisco left national powerhouse MSU. Simon was at a successful Siena program and all kinds of experience prior to that. Heath did an amazing job assembling this crew!!

We are not, and have never been a mid major.

from a resource management perspective - its good to coach the players youve got. ron english ran off like 20-30 kids when he took the job and that really hindered his ability to do anything. CC didnt run anyone off. if you think heath can restock the players that he encouraged to look elsewhere then itll work - if you dont then it wont. the open transfer rules this year will probably help his ability to fill our the roster and microwave the rebuild.

RE: New MBB Coaching Thread (Assistant Coach)
Dan/Glory, I think the problem is that we don’t know that Coach Heath asked any players to transfer or leave. It sounds like Jerry has a first hand account from Lowder/Father that feel they were asked to leave. Then since Morgan and Binelli decided to transfer as well, it seemed more plausible that their account may have been true. There is also evidence to the contrary since there are 4 players who decided not to leave (Ballard, Okongo, Spottsville, McBride). More decided to stay then decided to leave, so the “encouragement to leave” must not have been too strong- if it even happened at all.
