WOW!!! What an impressive staff! I don’t mean to disparage my beloved alma mater, but I feel like these guys are taking a step down to coach here. They are all leaving successful programs to rebuild at EMU. Trice is a Penn alumni who took his team to the tourney, 13 years coaching a traditional mid major powerhouse in Temple, spends last year at Colgate who makes the tourney. Denisco left national powerhouse MSU. Simon was at a successful Siena program and all kinds of experience prior to that. Heath did an amazing job assembling this crew!!

This is a very experienced staff no doubt. As you indicate very impressive resumes for the mid-major level, esp. what we can afford to pay.

Hope they are hungry. They have a lot to do with a near complete turnover in the player roster.

And an impressive staff at that! Throw in some decent initial recruits in Savicevic, Golson, Rice, and Clements. Heath’s first month has been nothing short of amazing. Let’s hope that reflects on the court...

BTW, I think we all batted a collective 0.000 on the asst coach hires.

Before their names were mentioned in media or social media, no one mentioned Simon, Trice, or Denisco.

This was despite Simon being an EMU alum, Trice is from MI and Denisco was part of Izzo's staff.

Trying to guess assistant coach hires is a lot like trying to pick lottery winning numbers. Might get lucky, but don't count on it.

I am thinking we may try to sign 3 or 4 more in this class before June 1.

I was thinking the same thing, Dan!... We listed who we wanted as head coach (ie, Boykins, Heath, Saddi, Thomas, Bronkems, etc). Whoever was not hired we then said we wanted as assistants... Steve, I don’t think anyone was actually trying to predict the assistant hires...

I “might” get a call from Stan Heath Monday-apparently he is trying to reach out to season ticket holders. My guess it will be quick “thanks for support” call- or maybe ask for further support. But I plan to grill him with questions if he allows me too. Anyone got any questions you want me to pose to him? (If he allows me to)

i love that he's doing this. i had to turn down the opportunity because i'll be out of cell range all next week. too bad.

i also got a box of EMU swag in the mail today from Scott Wetherbee. These guys are building enthusiasm. i can't wait for the season to start.

Kind of.

Lot of talk about Neely, Stone, maybe Carl Thomas, Hopson, Moore, Cofield and of course, Boykins. And a ton more including a couple holdovers.

Of the names you listed only Boykins was a true ass't coach hope for.

Cow, I received the same invitation from the EMU ticket office. Honestly I appreciated the offer, it demonstrated a level of fan engagement not seen in the Murphy tenure. I've said this before but "sometimes your greatest ability is availability". Rob Murphy was fantastic at the luncheons, he could clearly convince you that playing Toure and Thompson together was a great idea when the on-court evidence clearly showed that it was not. Rob, however, NEVER engaged season ticket holders like this and perhaps Stan won't once he gets going, but this is a positive sign.

I, like Aaron, declined to take the phone call.

Why? I was never a Stan guy in the hiring process and based on my conversation with a player in the transfer portal, Coach Heath urged all existing roster players to find new destinations, he is apparently cleaning house and I have reservations about that. I hate the preponderance of transfers but when a coach is encouraging them, I am extremely conflicted.

At the end of the day, however, Coach Heath is extremely active and apparently dedicated. I'm behind him 100%, until I find a reason to not be so. I have no desire to "grill" him until I see his actual work product.

Jerry, I don’t have the inside connections that you and some others seem to have. So if you heard first hand Heath suggested to existing players to hit the transfer portal, then I have no basis to counter. But it did seem from some of the publicly released videos/interviews that Coach Heath was trying to retain experience sting players. Maybe I had the wrong impression, or dare I say it was made to appear that way.

Otherwise, I agree that I am ver glad with the outreach efforts of current coach.

Interesting post. And, as usual, we posters are long on opinions, but short of 'facts' about many things.

Transfers are a case in point. We don't know what happens between player and coach, within a player's mind, etc.

We are in the middle of 'transfer culture' and coaches are apparently playing a much greater role than many believe.

Total lack of loyalty both ways.

RE: New MBB Coaching Thread (Assistant Coach)
CC didn't run off football players his first season. He referred to all of them as his players. He made English recruited players better.

Some players decided to transfer right after Murphy left and before a new coach was named. Chris James and Miles Gibson come to mind. They weren't staying no matter what. Lowder McBride and Binelli are all more complicated. Lowder was staying. Binelli was staying. McBride was leaving. Morgan was staying. And then after Heath was named coach that all changed the opposite. Also there are still 5 guys on the roster from last year. Any explanation for that? If you're going to run them off why not all of them?
