I want to hear what will happen first with Mondro and Drew (DOBO). I believe Drew was very well liked by all during his time at EMU.

Mondro could be the odd man out. Heath doesn't need a really, really experienced hold over. Heath has been coaching for decades.

So maybe BobW gets his wish of Neely???

Here is some info on Cofield, compliments of Google...

https://dailyknicks.com/2017/08/09/new-y...d-cofield/

Man, every time I search I find the names "Scott Perry" or "Troy Weaver" concerning the NBA pop up.

"Steve Mills and Scott Perry are hiring Fred Cofield, who played for the team in 1985-86, as a scout in their front office, league sources told ESPN.

I recommend keeping Drew Kang. Excellent resume and he has 'green running through his veins.

I agree.

Would Jimmy Wooten come back?

He was brought on as a recruiter. Heath needs someone to hit the ground running with recruiting.

Wootens speciality was prep schools.

Stan needs zero technical or schematic assistance, the dude has been there and done that for 30 years. He simply needs guys who do three things:

One is RECRUIT and I forgot the other two things.

Jerry, to take your point and spin it.

Stan will train his COACHES in offense and defensive schemes.

What I like about him is that he has NBA-related experience. Hoops schemes, etc. are changing and Stan has connection to both college and NBA.

I just looked him up, that would be fantastic if he would take such a job. Apparently he played one season with Michael Jordan- talk about selling EMU history to recruits. I think it is interesting that EMU had a player go to the NBA during the mid eighties. Seemed like a down decade in between Dutcher and Braun.

Frank, in a way, the search for asst coaches might be as much fun as the HC.

Heath could certainly go back in time to Cofield or anyone since then.

Cofield?

Carl Thomas (I believe he has a non-coaching job at Duquesne).

Earl Boykins?

Anyone want to seriously get into D-I coaching, now is the time... Heath would be a great mentor.

I think this is my favorite part of the hire: Heath brings the promise of continuity of coaching excellence. He will coach up players and coaches. With the right assistant hires the next head coach could already be in training.

Yes. We could see if Boykins wants and has the ability to be a D-I HC.

IF Earl wants the perfect landing spot to transition into coaching this is it.

I'm hoping Heath keeps Drew, the DOBO. DOBO is a support position.

In a,radio interview it sounded like Heath knows the staff he wants to hire and is just going through the administrative process. I am thinking next week we will have an announcement of staff.

It could be Cofield and Boykins here's the problem they don't have any recruiting connections either. Boykins at least might be familiar with NCAA recruiting rules. Not sure about Fred. Stan needs at least one experienced assistant on board is that Mondro or someone else he wants?

I agree. I will add that I think Heath will be the teacher. He might be able to coach (positions) 1 - 5.

Drew is a very experienced DOBO but this does NOT entail recruiting. I believe a DOBO handles most administrative things as well as films, etc.

As '79 has mentioned, Wooten could be a candidate for the recruiting position. At least he could hit the ground running and knows a good share of the east coast, etc.

I can see Boykins as a bench coach and get into recruiting.

I can easily see Heath, Boykins, Wooten, and Drew with one FT coaching vacancy.

As far as Cofield, I would think it is hard to go from a NBA scout to D-I asst coach. They are very different positions and the recruiting grind in D-I can be really bad.

Stan spoke glowingly about Lorenzo Neely in that Ann Arbor radio interview. I'll bet we get Neely. I would also like to see John Bowler come home. He's paid his dues and then some. Neely and Bowler would be fantastic.

Not challenging you here, but genuinely curious. How do you know that neither have any recruiting connections?
