RE: Prince Phillip Has Died
Quote:Prince Philip, who died on Friday April 9 at the age of 99-years-old, will be laid to rest on Saturday, April 17th, in a private ceremony in accordance with his wishes.

The Daily Wire reported, “Buckingham Palace announced Philip’s death on Friday. The elderly prince has had a host of health problems and had surgery on his heart last month.”

“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle,” a message posted to the royal family’s website says. “Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”

According to NBC News, a spokesman for Buckingham Palace said that the funeral will take place in St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

“The royal family hoped the coming days would be seen as a chance to celebrate the Duke of Edinburgh’s ‘remarkable life,’ the spokesman said, adding that the COVID-19 pandemic ‘has of course required us to make significant adaptations to the original arrangements for His Royal Highness’s funeral,’” NBC News reported.

“While this is naturally a time of sadness and mourning for the royal family and the many others who knew or admired the Duke of Edinburgh, it is hoped that the coming days will also be seen as an opportunity to celebrate a remarkable life — remarkable both in terms of his vast contribution and lasting legacy,” the spokesman reportedly added.

Prince Harry is expected to travel from the United States to the United Kingdom for the funeral, while Meghan Markle will not be joining him, apparently following advice from her physician.

“The Duke of Sussex is planning to attend. The Duchess of Sussex has been advised by her physician not to travel. So the duke will be attending,” a spokesman from Buckingham Palace said on Saturday, according to People Magazine.

Harry’s return will be his first time in the United Kingdom in over a year, and will also be the first time he will be with members of the Royal Family since the couple’s now infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey last month, during which Markle appeared to level accusations of racism against the Royal Family.

“Meghan, 39, is expecting the couple’s second child, a baby girl, later this spring,” added People Magazine, while reports suggest that she will not attend Prince Philip’s funeral because of a lack of “medical clearance.”

In February 2019, Markle received some criticism after she flew approximately 10,000 miles in 11 days while over 7 months pregnant, including a stop in New York to celebrate her baby shower.

After Prince Philip’s death, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle posted a single-sentence tribute on their Archwell website, which read, “Thank you for your service…you will be greatly missed.”

I'd put money that Harry shows. Plus they are on the Netflix dole, so doubt he cares.

Yeah, pretty sure Harry doesn't give a rat's ass what anyone thinks. That's his grandp. Meghan may not go mainly because she's about to pop out another kid.

Third cousins, through Victoria. That's generally far enough away not to be considered problematic.

But I've often wondered if perhaps one reason for the decline of royalty in Europe may have been that with the tendency of royals to marry royals, they start to get inbred too much over time. The modern trend of royals marrying commoners would seem to be a healthy one.

One interesting thing is that if my genealogy research is correct, Meghan Markle is not the first royal of color, nor was Obama the first US president of color. Queen Elizabeth, George Washington, and I have a common ancestor, Nicolas Martiau, who was a Moor. He was, incidentally, GW's first ancestor to reach the New World. So I guess I have about as good a claim to be a person of color as Liz Warren has to be Native American. At least I know who my ancestor of color was.

You have a better claim, although Warren can claim lineage with 3 tribes: Naiveaho, Fauxnee, and the Creeps. If you push her she will claim a fourth the Sue, but then lawyers like that tribe. Unfortunately Congress made her a Chairakee.

RE: Prince Phillip Has Died
Quote:BBC and Channel 5 presenter Jeremy Vine has been panned for asking if it is “a problem” that those attending the Covid-restricted funeral of the Queen’s consort Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, are white.

Vine made the comments not on his long-running BBC Radio 2 show but on his Channel 5 television programme.

“You’ve just made me think of this because of your lovely greeting to the many diverse communities in this brilliant country,” Vine simpered in comments to fellow broadcaster Gursharonjit ‘Shay’ Grewal, who is of South Asian heritage.

“We are gonna see a group of 30 people who are going to be at this very restricted funeral, and I’m imagining it will be 30 people who are white,” he continued.

“I’m just trying to think whether there’s anybody of colour in there and I don’t think so. Is that, do you think that’s a problem?”

The 55-year-old, who previously accepted a pay cut at the BBC after virtue-signalling how “appalled” he was about the so-called gender pay gap on his radio show, was roundly criticised for the “race-baiting” remarks, with one social media user saying they were “genuinely staggered” by them.

“It’s not a problem but let’s ask the question anyway so that we can try to turn it into one,” read another facetious comment on Vine’s antics.

Grewal immediately told Vine that no, she did not see any issues with the late Second World War veteran’s lockdown-limited funeral being comprised largely of family members who are, perhaps unsurprisingly, the same race as he was.

“Look, at the end of the day, the Royal Family are a family, so if someone passes away you’re going to have your most beloved members of your family there, and that is the case when it comes to this funeral,” she said.

“I think at the moment what we all need to focus on is the fact that a family is mourning; they have lose the patriarch in their family, and this country, of course, we have lost the Duke of Edinburgh, and so for me, I am not focusing on what they are wearing, I’m not focusing on who’s there — I’m thinking about Her Majesty the Queen and the fact that she’s lost her long life partner, and how hard that must be,” she added, going on to praise the 94-year-old monarch for remaining “stoic” and continuing to carry out public duties.

“That just shows the kind of woman that she is,” she said.

Meghan Markle, the mixed-race wife of Prince Philip’s grandson Harry, is not flying in from the United States for the funeral on the advice of her doctors, as she is heavily pregnant.
