I also see this, Texas has only won one National Title in the past 50 years, why would they join the SEC? If they think it's tough in the Big 12/SWC winning titles, what would they think playing in that conference is like? I understand that the BIG schools aren't sitting the world on fire with National Titles, but we don't have what Texas has with recruits. Ask Georgia how hard it is, i believe they are in a ~40 year drought and look at the recruits in that state.
Texas doesn't need the TV money, people throw money at that University whenever it's needed, they are the wealthiest.
That's my thoughts on them.

It's looking more and more to me like the Big 12 stays as is, especially if they go all in with Disney. The areas where there is enough turmoil to create movement is out West and in the East. In both cases the primary motivator is in play, money.

If geography wasn't a factor, the 2 schools that fit the BIG perfectly are Oregon and Washington.

On Notre Dame, I do agree their value is much higher as an independent over the long haul. This year was special as it was a one time thing and they did so well. I don't think that would keep as well long term. What makes people love and hate Notre Dame so much in the current era is their instance on being different. I think if you take that away, they just become another big power school. That is not bad, but it is less than they are now. That said, I don't think it would hurt their on field success though. They would be well positioned to be toward top of ACC most years.

I think B1G expansion is done. Both Texas and Oklahoma are better off remaining in the Big 12 where the Longhorns can rule the conference administratively and the Sooners can continue to dominate opponents on the gridiron. ND would lose some of its luster if it gave away its independence like Penn State, Miami and FSU.

If I recall their contact language they keep their football rights outside of the ACC's grant of rights agreement (which is more than a decade from expiring), but that was stipulated with them being an independent. If they join a conference, I believe that was forfeit and the ACC gets those rights until that agreement expires.

Personally I don't want expansion. The conferences have already gotten too big, too hard to win, and we don't play each other enough. Think of how much different it already is. Eleven was big when we went to it (first to announce past 10). With that we played everyone at least 75% of the time and had co-champions. Now we have 14 and only one champion. This means that programs that used to win conference champions regularly going much longer between (look at Nebraska and Michigan) and teams that only once in a while win it might be half a century or more between championships. We also are playing more than half the conference less than 1/2 the time. Adding two more teams (especially high profile ones) makes all of these issues much worse.

Let's be honest: co-championships are awful. If two schools go 7-1 with one beating the other, they shouldn't share the championship. And if they finish with the same record but don't play each other, that feels almost as bad. They should face off in a championship game.

Honestly, if the Big Ten broke up by division lines and Penn State only played the six other division members, I probably wouldn't be too heartbroken. Those are the schools closest with the longest history and strongest feelings. PSU doesn't have the connections (rivalry, recruiting, history) with the west to make me miss playing them.

I agree 100%. I don't think Texas and/or Oklahoma leaves and nobody else is valuable enough to preemptively jump.

The Big 12 gets better ratings and money than the ACC already and I think they'll sign a new deal that keeps them in that solid third position. That puts the ACC in the vulnerable position where they are so far behind in pay (like the PAC) but within the geographic reach of each of the three conferences above them financially (unlike the PAC) for it to make sense that a member could leave. The ACC is arguably in the second place position (or worst) in any area or region they compete against another P5 conference. I think we'll soon be looking past where Texas and Oklahoma will go and start looking at where Florida State, Clemson, and UNC will go.
