Marreon to Arizona State
WTF!!!

This makes no sense. Go play for a coach who has a track record for both winning and developing players.

Why go play for a coo-coo clock like Hurley???

Kids these days really show how little they know about the game they play and the people who are coaching in it.

What a joke.

Blade: Hurley tweeted two exclamation points after Jackson revealed his decision.

“Bobby Hurley does a great job with his guards,” Jackson said. “Being able to pick a mind like his, a national champion, his accolades, and the pieces we have coming in, we’re looking to make a deep tourney run.”

How to respond respectfully to your post is a bigger challenge than MJ had, lol.

I certainlly know MJ is more intellignet than I am at the game and the process. I might analyze his decision but I certainly do not understand insulting it. Time will tell how well placed the decision but I have nothing but best wishes for him. He certainly picked a nice place to land for a young person and for a person looking for an education. I hope the basketball works out similarly.

Your response was respectful ... and as a vacation spot I'll vouch for Phoenix along with you ... but this ASU team did not make the NCAA Tournament this year after being picked to win that league ... and MJ painting Hurley as some sort of guard maven, again, shows little beyond knowing he played at Duke.

Yes, I hope the basketball works out. But Hurley's track record as a coach is there for all to see. And beyond Buffalo, ... the jury is definitely out. Based on his list, MJ had better options.

Maybe if Hurley had been at UT I would have liked him, but he seemed like a whiner during his time at Buffalo. I want Jackson to do well, but it will be hard for me to root for him at ASU.

Being that I like Ewing and Hurley annoys me, I was hoping he'd go to Georgetown. it would be more fun to cheer for marreon. That's my personal angle. As a college bball player it's kind of a wash. georgetown is big east and asu is pac12, both very good conferences and teams that are neither on top of the league nor incapable of winning it (Gtown has been a 2nd division BE program in recent years but won the conf tourney this year). arkansas was also on his list until they got a commitment from a big time pg transfer earlier in the week. as far as schools go georgetown is the better education and the place to make more connections in the world. one place has a lot of metaphoric hot air, the other a lot of literal hot air.

So... you're going to disparage MJ's next diploma... Nice. 03-razz

I was rooting GTown also. I spent some college years there (Cooledge was President as I recall), great place. Then it went downhill but now I guess it's gentrified and impossible to afford. Nicely diverse rich people. Both schools have similar student diversity but GTown excels at faculty diversity. The better known GTown post-grad degrees mostly lead to professions that rely on hot air. Law, politics,..

I kid. Georgetown is one of the better colleges in the larger DC area.

Innovative Universities

Hmm Georgetown, Georgetown.. Ah, nope that's Georgia Tech. Oh! Look who is first! What a coincidink.

Well what was MJ's major? Media Communications.
Media Communications

Georgetown, Georgetown.. Oh look who we DID find! Actually I'm skeptical of this one. I can't see Syracuse, well known in this field and sitting at 98.

I do not understand any criticism of his decision. He was not coming back to UT for another year. He has not decided to transfer to a UT opponent. This is a bright guy who knows what he wants in life. He made the decision best for him and him alone. That is the way it should be. Anyone who follows big time b-ball knows that Bobby Hurley was an awesome PG for Duke. He was intense as a player and he is really intense as a coach. Maybe that is what Marreon figured he needs to reach the next level. I hope Marreon attains his goals.

I can't speak for others, but I criticized the decision because I think Bobby Hurley is a jerk.

There's another angle that no one has mentioned. Jackson has said that he decided to transfer because he thinks that the exposure he gets from playing at a higher level will cause the NBA to take notice. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have not seen him quoted as saying that he thinks a year at a big-name school will improve his game enough that he can play in the NBA. Rather, the idea seems to be that he is already good enough, but the NBA hasn't noticed because he plays in the MAC. I wonder about people's thoughts on that take. Jackson was a great player for the Rockets, but I don't think his point guard skills are good enough for the NBA, and you don't see too many 6'1" shooting guards. His defense isn't quite there, either.

Also, if it's true that you can't get to the NBA from the MAC, even if you're good enough, that certainly wouldn't help with recruiting.

Are you quoting him as having said that? It's a valid point you bring up but I also do not expect a kid to be a wordsmith. Words and thoughts don't always match up. On this, I wouldn't presume unless he responded to a direct question on skills development vs. exposure.

Gave Marreon another 3 inches, now they may have looked at him. I didn't think anyone in the NBA plays defense anymore and that is why I don't watch that league.

Marreon is bound for Europe. I think he’s losing a year earning decent money in Europe while playing at ASU. He is a real long-shot for the NBA. I’ll admit I don’t like to see him wear another uniform other than Toledo.

The NBA has degraded into a 3 ball mania league. I used to enjoy the NBA... that’s was like 50 years ago.

The only team pro sports I enjoy are Mud Hens & MLB baseball and I rediscovered the NFL last year at beginning of playoffs. I’m glad that happened.

Go Rockets!

I don’t see MJ in the NBA either, although he’ll probably get a look. I wish he would make it- the NBA is the only pro team sport I follow to any extent and it’d be great to see him.

Defense is played in the nba (bar the All Star Game03-wink). Offenses have just evolved exponentially, making it much harder to defend.

Got a lot of folks on here that are pretty critical of his career decision. If we could all be as critical of your career choices.
