What the hell does this mean: Operating out of a 3-4 base defense, UAB often employs two down-lineman to open games before adjusting to a roving rotating band of barbarians.

A roving rotating band of barbarians?

RE: ‘Happy medium’: UAB defensive line finding balance in deep rotation
We have three DE positions in our Base defense. NT, DT, and SDE. We often play without one of our true NT's in the game and the SDE's and NT tend to play both positions lining up in a different spot down to down to confuse the defense. So that's the Roving. We play a lot of defensive linemen and rotate them in and out to keep them fresh, so thats the rotating. Band of Barbarians is just a safe for print way to say that they are a bunch of BAMFs.

You really think the person who wrote that sentence put that kind of thought into this? I don't.

The legendary NFL defensive coach, retired a couple of years ago, would do this. There were plays where he had all 11 players standing. I loved watching it and I really don’t know how teams prepared for games against him.
