Jason Kemp to join Minnesota’s staff
“ SOURCE: Word out of Minnesota is Ben Johnson’s staff will consist Jaime McNeilly from Texas A&M, Dave Thorson from Colorado State & Jason Kemp at William & Mary.”

https://mobile.twitter.com/Sean02MTM/sta...8596868096

This would explain some of Kemp’s recent follows/followers, particularly Parker Fox who had already narrowed his list to 8 (including Minnesota) before Kemp followed.

Luke's choice makes even more sense now.

Makes sense. Ohio to Tribe was a step down. Kind of makes you wonder about Loewe, doesn't it? I wonder who else were his top recruits.

Congrats Jason. We will miss you for sure. Thanks for the last couple of years.

I wonder if we will bring someone new in or promote Bollinger.

If we don’t promote Bollinger, I wouldn’t mind giving Quinn McDowell a look. He’s currently an assistant at Lehigh.

Replacement coaches I've been thinking about.
- Traditionally, we'd generally promote the DoBO to a full time assistant and look to bring on a young up and comer as a grad assistant or DoBO.
- If we do decide to leapfrog Bollinger and bring in an assistant I've focused my attention on out of work coaches from the Dave Paulsen tree. Of the 4 main ones, 2 are available.
* Dwayne Simpkins (GMU asst) - recently retained by the new GMU coach so he's not leaving
* Aaron Kelly (former GMU asst) - Current HC at Catholic U, so doubtful he'd want a demotion.
* Maurice Joseph (GMU asst) - former HC at GW. Currently unemployed. He'd be a great hire, but I'm not sure he's interested. I think his sights are on being a HC again.
* Bryson Johnson (GMU asst) - former player for Paulsen & Dane at Bucknell. Lacks experience, but I'd peg him as a prime candidate. Still trying to build his resume so the price is probably right. Must have promise if Paulsen promoted him to a full assistant with his experience.
- Looking locally at possible out of work assistants, UMBC assistant Bryce Crawford stands out. Though I'm not sure if he stays put with the new staff, or follows Odum to Utah.

Any other realistic thoughts on options? I'm pretty sure Sean Miller isn't joining the staff.

Joseph or Johnson would be good hires. They also need to have some solid recruiting chops.

Hopefully it means we're doing something right, if coaches are getting poached to bigger programs, at least.

I know Kemp was our lead recruiter on Brumbaugh. I hope we have taken steps to continue that relationship and really all the others he had. Seems like just pulling Bollinger up would give us the greatest continuity for recruiting.

I like Brumbaugh and I think he likes W&M, but pretty sure that ship has sailed. He is being talked about as a potential top 50 PG with new P5s showing interest weekly

Just because he has been on staff, does not guarantee he is a proven recruiter.

That, if true, is fine, but we really can't afford, at our current talent level, to not have solid recruiters, top to bottom.

Sort of reminds me of that point guard from southwest Virginia that we recruited early on who ended up at Georgetown for two years as one of their best players and then transferred this year to Texas Tech, I believe, where he was a stud for them.

It's happened a good bit where guys we were in the running with late ended up as studs/NBA players down the road. McClung, Jaxonn Hayes, Tyrese Haliburton, & Josh Hart off the top of my head. Of course, how serious they were about W&M might just be my wishful memories.

And OG Anunoby, Dylan Windler, and Aaron Nesmith.

Haliburton at least we were in on very early. Sophomore year, I think.

And no, we were never close in the end on any of these guys. We were there for quite a while on some of them but every time when there was serious power conference interest it was functionally over (see e.g. Kaleb Johnson and Robbie Beran). I cannot recall a single guy we've poached from multiple P5s, unless you count half the ACC urging Marcus Thornton to break his commitment (*after* signing his LOI!). I think Nate had like 27 offers or something, but no actual big-time schools.

And then, of course, there was Eli Pemberton.

My gut says that this position is already filled and we are really looking for a DoBO.

Looks like only current W&M/VIMS employees eligible.
