Poll: When is Gonzaga going to fall back to earth?
Quite soon as the PAC is on the rise.
Whenever Mark Few retires from the job.
Never as its an amazing basketball school.

I think Gonzaga is safe until Few retires or leaves. It also depends on who they get to replace him. At least short term Few made Gonzaga a destination job for coaching. If they get a good coach that's there for the long term the drop could be slow. I expect Few is going to be allowed to name his replacement unless the team goes off the rails. I'm guessing it's going to be a assistant coach that knows the program.

If Gonzaga can actually win a natty, that should set them up for a while. They should have jumped for the Mountain West when they had the chance three years ago.

Indiana has made 10 of 21 NCAA Tournaments since firing Knight.

IMO, that would be worst case scenario for Gonzaga. They'll have been so powerful for 25+ years once Few retires that 10/21 NCAAs should be their floor.

Looking at the results, it's over 83% saying whenever Mark Few retires. That is as close to a consensus opinion as you'll ever get on this board.

And I agree. Except that coaches tend to fall off the last couple years when they stay too long, when the fire inside has dimmed a bit. So more accurately, unless he retires a couple years too soon, the actual answer is about 3 years before he retires. Which if I had to guess starts around 2031.

What I see with Gonzaga is if they start going .500 in their P5 competition they drop from a 1 seed to a 10 seed fairly fast.

A power school with 8 losses can still be a 4 , 5 or 6 seed in the tournament. For Gonzaga that means a 10 or 11 seed.

Its a slippery slope. Wichita St was 16-5 and only made the play-in game.
