Pretty much who you expect to see.

The BE schools are largely there due to paying rent at pro facilities; nova and provvy to a lesser extent than GU and MU. I’m surprised that Memphis isnt on the list.

We (GU) play in an alum owned arena and he apparently cares nothing about alma mater. Charges us exorbitant rent with a contract that apparently requires us to play all home games at his nba arena.

I also thought Memphis might be on the list.

ACC - 7 of top 25 basketball spending schools
B12 - 5
BIG, SEC & Big East - 4
PAC - 1

The ACC is investing in the wrong sport.

A handful of these schools are getting a poor return on their investment — including Indiana (for which I have long rooted).

Northwestern and TCU? Those are head-scratchers.

Highest cost of attendance for D-1 schools in 2019-20 (non-Ivy League):

78654 - Northwestern University
77459 - University of Southern California
77029 - Duke University
76891 - Fordham University
76280 - Georgetown University
75886 - Boston College
75400 - Bucknell University
75312 - Pepperdine University
75015 - Colgate University
75002 - Boston University
74829 - Santa Clara University
74570 - Stanford University
74358 - Wake Forest University
74193 - University of Notre Dame
74160 - George Washington University

The average is $47,972.

This is from data that schools report to the federal Department of Education. It's going to depend a lot on each school's accounting system.

For some schools, this will be only coaching salaries, athletic scholarships, and direct travel expenses. For other schools, it will add on gameday expenses, a pro-rata share of athletic department expenses, and depreciation/maintenance of the arena.

I would take this with a huge grain of salt.

I am surprised to see no B1G schools in the top 10, and only four overall.

The B1G has a rich basketball tradition and it has buckets of money. So I expect this to change.

As "JR" pointed out, we will see more Alabama-types, traditional football schools, investing more in hoops, because they are making the whopping money needed to do so.

Equity in Athletics shows Memphis, Dayton and Gonzaga in the top 25.

Makes me wonder if they were even checked.

No, they're not in the top 25.

Look at reported expenses for men's basketball, not men's and women's combined. Memphis is at $8.2 million for men's basketball, Dayton $7.4 million.

Gonzaga, at $10,496,251 in the EIA database, is just behind #25 on the list in the OP, Tennessee, which reported $10,554,613.

Private school tuition times the number of players on scholarship drive up the cost.

Memphis does not pay the Grizzlies rent at the FedexForum. The Grizzlies pay them at most $800K per season based on attendance minimums, but penalize them if not met. The Grizzlies receive all gameday revenues.

It does, but so does public university tuition for non-resident students. Private college tuition is often still somewhat higher, but non-resident public university tuition ain't cheap.

Example: Non-resident undergrad tuition at Tennessee this school year is $31,684.

He fired two assistants (didn’t renew their contracts) back in March. If Louisville doesn’t make a deep tournament run next March, Mack might be looking for a job.

I read last weekend while UCLA was playing in the Final Four that Louisville might have hired the wrong basketball coach from the City of Cincinnati. 04-jawdrop

I am guessing you will be hiring an assistant from Greater Cincinnati soon as well.
