The one from ky IS, as well as NC and Duke. Players have blatantly admitted being bought at Duke and NC created a class just for athletes to keep their GPAs up. Kansas cheated more than we did during 2008, but...

Those are blue bloods, sooooo their cheating doesn't count.

I think the rub is accepting the term of the contract, cashing the checks and then seemingly only half-ass fulfilling his part of the deal...

Now, that is a fair point and worthy of discussion.

What's funny is neither you or Stammers are totally right OR totally wrong, but you beat each other up over what you think is the truth.

Tubby was hired to make the transition into the Big 12. Had we made it, the crowds would've taken care of themselves.
The local HS and AAU teams dogged Tubby, but they did Josh and cal too for the most part, so that's stupid to say it was all Penny doing it.
Tubby didn't recruit worth crap. I know of a local player that he halfhearted recruited, only saw two of his games and when it came to talking playing time and how he planned to coach, he drew it all up on a notepad. Every other coach this player went to see was using state of the art multimedia presentations and Tubby was still using pen and paper. His social game was bad as well. Tubby just wasn't one of those that was going to go out to Tiger Nation and beat the drums to fire up support.
Tubby was a very good coach. He didn't take this job just to mail it in and cash a paycheck, BUT he was well past his prime and not up to the Memphis job. Memphis basketball means more here than just about any other place in the nation. It's just different here and Tubby didn't fully understand that fact.

There were other things blamed on him that were complete BS as well, but I won't start that argument either.

RE: Calkins on Scott Drew 4-3-2009
Calkins had a bit on his show this week about the column he wrote. He said he will forever be blamed for blowing up the Drew hire - right or wrong. He also said he was wrong. He never mentioned that is was dumb to use B12 coaches as sources for the column.

Finally, he said that if his columns are that influential, then he gets credit for bringing the Grizz to town - for some reason.

He did not bring up his column about hiring Porter, that at the same time of giving us one of the worst coaches in fb history, it tanked a relationship with Fred Smith that took a few years to rebuild.

What it boils down to is he couldn’t get the job done. Glad he’s gone!

Ok. So, I said I was done replying to anything you posted, but I'm going to break that rule one last time. Then, no more.

Listen here, you ignorant douche bag, for the 859th time...Tubby is a good person and a good basketball coach. That said, the fit at Memphis wasn't good and he had lost some of his fire. Couple that with the fact that he (nor the people who hired him) did their due diligence about what he was walking into. Being that you really don't know much about Memphis, I should probably cut you some slack on this point, but being that you are such an overbearing a$$hole, I won't.

The high school/AAU basketball scene in Memphis is a corrupt cesspool. And, that's putting it nicely. Tubby refused to kiss a$$ and break the rules. The only thing that might have saved his tenure would have been a former Tiger legend that was coaching high school at the time, since that person LOVES Memphis so much. But, his undying LOVE for Memphis didn't quite equal his own aspirations of being a head coach at his alma mater and he (along with the other HS/AAU "playas" in town) couldn't get rid of Tubby, fast enough.

I would go on, but I truly don't think you possess the intellectual honesty to do anything other than twist words and hurl insults. But yeah, I like Tubby and it sucks the way things played out. I'm really sorry that a nuanced view that opposes your sheer ignorance finds you replying to my every post and combing thru my posts from years gone by. But, it's not surprising, as you are clearly a monumental tool bag, who has nothing better to do with his day than to pick apart every post on a message board. Honestly, it's kinda sad and pathetic.

Peace out and F off.

Your whole post is so beyond insane; I'm going to do you a favour and just laugh at one part of it. Point form as always, to make it as simple as possible for slow learners.

- Tubby could have saved his tenure by not being a ******* lazy check cashing loser
- Tubby could have saved his tenure by letting daddy Lawson recruit all of the kids and DJ for him
- Tubby could have saved his tenure by signing any of the other hundreds of good players from the other 49 states
- Tubby could have saved his tenure by not going on vacation TWICE when we had 7 scholarship players on the roster

Last but not least, it would have been unconscionable for Penny to allow anyone he cares about to play for a lazy piece of **** has been like Tubby. I guarantee you that IF Shaka Smart, Gregg Marshall, Archie Miller, or anyone reputable was our coach, he would have tried to steer players here. You met Tubby and he didn't pull the elastic of your underpants over your head, so you love him. You hate Penny, we get it.

Only someone pathetic like you, is still defending Tubby. You need to have your head examined.

Stammers, why would you bring this Tubby business up again? You have to rehash stuff constantly, for years on end, just hoping to get in an argument so you can show a few dozen people how smart you are. ORUVOICE may bave a low IQ, especially related to Tubby, but there are worse things. You starting an argument for no reason is as predictable as that Alfonzo guy (or girl) calling someone a cuck, whatever that is.

You came out of a 2 year retirement for this?

Low IQ? Hey now. No need to make this personal!

Being elementary school buddies with Penny has clouded your judgement.

Don’t be obtuse. He knew what he was getting into. I don’t get your love for a guy whose coaching career trended down from 2005 on. And don’t give me that “he got to the tournament at Texas Tech.” He was 9-9 in the league and limped in. His other seasons were losers. He got out ahead of the posse and our powers that be at the time gave him a out. And he wasn’t that great of bench coach either. Never was imo. Maybe he was when he was with Tulsa back in the late 80s ? Who cares

I've pretty much stayed out of this issue, but I'll offer this:
>Tubby was on the gravy train while he was here. It was obvious to all.
>I don't blame him for not playing the game with local coaches.
>I do blame him for not recruiting very hard.
>I think the results he got with the players he recruited were pretty good, but not Memphis good.
>Tubby intentionally lowered the bar of expectation and told us to get used to it.

That's all.

The bottom line is that you still defend Tubby, which is incredible, and you crap on Penny every chance you get. Everyone except someone who hasn't posted in 2 years is onto you. You see no appreciable difference between Wiseman and Maurice/Thomas, and you aren't even bright enough to understand that we make the tournament easily with Williams all year, we make the tournament easily if we get Wichita on the road and Houston at home, and we make the tournament easily if Wichita has to play us and SMU twice.

Not only do you crap on Penny every chance you get, you are also blaming him for Tubby failing. It's all here in black and white, none of it open to dispute.

That is how badly you've lost it.

I think you are confused. You seem to think Few hasn't had offers. IF Few wanted the job, UNC would have hired him in 10 seconds. He would have literally any open NCAA job he wanted. I don't think a job exists that wouldn't be his for the asking.

Im glad he’s stayed. I wish more coaches would follow that path. Was hoping Porter Moser would, but there’s a big difference between 500K and 3 million.

I'm sure he didn't bring up the column about the University taking advertising money from the casinos. Money we didn't get. It was ok for old mrs to take casino money.

Some people think he is some great columnist. Only because there just aren't any good ones anymore. He's proved to me he's a bogus POS.

Friend of the University? I don't think so.

Yeah, that was another he didn't bring up.
But it's okay for his station to peddle on-line gaming every other commercial.
And for him to have daily gambling tips from his producer.

Once again, more proof that reporters/journalists/opinionists don't know their a-holes from their elbows.

They do nothing for information or enlightenment...just self aggrandizement.

And they expect to be paid and respected for their opinion.

How many BB coaches have the Tigers been thru since that article?
Sweet 16s?
Elite 8s?
Final 4s?

Yeah.

Sports journalism: people who can’t write interviewing people who can’t talk for people who don’t read.

Man, I don't know where time goes, when they introduce Drew before the game and said he has been at Baylor 18 years I almost fell out of my chair.
