Once Lapides said no to Drew then everyone should have known it would have been a good hire.

No one else has hired him. You never even hear about him getting offers.

Nobody would get on a coaches bandwagon if he promised to get to a Final Four in 18 years. That's how long it took.

Drew is a very good coach.

Drew is also a scum bag and a cheat.

The two facts are not mutually exclusive.

I seem to remember another guy that used to coach in these parts that would fit that same description.

Cuckins does a good job and is a great writer. We are luck to have him. Like Wolo, cuckins could go anywhere to work but he's stayed here.

RE: Calkins on Scott Drew 4-3-2009
That article was from 2009. Since then, Scott Drew has been in the NCAA's 9 times, advancing to the sweet 16 twice, to the Elite 8 twice, and a title this year. He's also won the NIT, and got to the NIT finals during that span. Quite an impressive record for a school like Baylor with no real tradition before Drew got there.

What might have been.... I do have to think that had we hired Scott Drew in 2009, we may have lost him to UCLA after they fired Howland in 2013.

I think we have the right guy leading the program now, but it took us 10 seasons to get there.

That's what is so ironic about Calkins' story, to be so judgemental given who had just left as coach & his own statement he know nothing firsthand, taking instead the word of a competing scumbag from Texas.

Same for Mark Few.

You must be thinking of another Mark Few that nobody has heard about.

Quote:He has turned down every opportunity to leave the West Coast Conference for more money and a bigger stage. And he only seriously considered one: Oregon in March 2009.

The Wikipedia page is incredible. Baylor was the biggest mess, with rampant drug use, crime, cheating and losing. That didn't even include the murder.

His TV show on Channel 3 used to have some of the crazy callers back in the day!

The call-in segments were must-watch TV. Personal favorite was the guy who routinely called in and told George he had seen him around town in his new pair of panties. His set up was classic, had a conversation for a minute or so and then would throw that in.
