Any decision made on lies, misinformation and emotion will most generally be dumb, stupid and wrong. The democrats do a lot of this....

Yeah, I"m not sure i agree totally with MLB. A few generations ago, maybe?

But again, I used to think most Athletes held conservative beliefs. You get what you earn and if you want to earn more do better, but now you got people like the Rapinoe's of the world, and then you hear athletes like Lebron and others agreeing with her.

If that's "what this is really all about", why hasn't anyone moaning and gnashing teeth over it bothered to mention that relatively obscure provision?

All anyone has mentioned, including Sloe* himself, has been JIM CROW on STEROIDS!!! It's JIM EAGLE!!! "You couldn't give a water bottle to Jesus Christ himself!". Oh, and of course the entirely racist and insulting assumption that black people are either too dumb or too lazy to figure out how to get a drivers license or other photo ID.

Nary a peep about the "State Legislature", bet you not one in ten would mention that as their (fake) concern over this change in process.

I'd say nice try though.

requiring a scannable ID to vote should be a slam fk'n dunk...

mail-in w/0 traceability is beyond fk'n tard....

A scannable bar code or QR code on a phone that can be secure and verifiable could be used as well. How someone in 2021 doesn't have any photo ID, I'd like to see some proof of any of that. As in real numbers, not "I used to know Uncle Eddie and he swore he'd never have another Gov't ID after he got in hot water with the Feds during the Great Depression" kinda crap, real numbers.

But you can be damn well sure they've got a phone these days. Would there be a possibility of a few people trying to use burners or something? Perhaps, but boy that gets pretty expensive real quick, and you can't just roll up in the catering trucks and drop off suitcase after suitcase of rigged phones.

These people are treating this like it's still 1964 or something. It's not.

RE: MLB Moves All Star Game To Colorado, Which Has Voter ID Laws, Significantly Less Dive
Quote:As RedState managing editor Jennifer Van Laar reported earlier, Major League Baseball has decided to move their All-Star game to Denver in protest of Georgia’s new voting law. The decision left many scratching their heads, considering the fact that Colorado’s voting laws contain some of the same supposedly “racist” restrictions that Georgia’s now do.

The more one reads between the lines, the more one sees that this obviously was not a well-thought-out move by MLB to appease the activist left, especially when you look at the demographics of Atlanta – where the game was originally going to be played, versus Denver – where it will be played now:

Atlanta, Georgia, is 51% black and 40.9% white, U.S. Census data from 2019 showed. Denver was 80.9% white and 9.8% black in 2019, according to U.S. Census data. ESPN reported Monday that the All-Star Game would take place at Coors Field.

Numerous sources reported that the MLB’s decision to move the 2021 All-Star game could cost black-owned businesses. Nearly 30% of businesses in Atlanta are black-owned, and Georgia will face an estimated lost economic impact of more than $100 million due to the MLB’s boycott of Atlanta, according to the president and CEO of Cobb Travel and Tourism Holly Quinlan.

In other words, by trying to appear “woke” and “socially conscious,” Major League Baseball just ripped money out of the hands of minority business owners in Atlanta and put it in the hands of business owners in a city that is mostly white.

Here’s a minority business owner in Georgia who operated near where the game would have been played who told a local news station that MLB’s decision would be devastating for her business:

While these identity politics games aren’t my cup of tea, these are the left’s rules, and we can see that in trying to abide by them, Major League Baseball ended up hurting the very people they claim to want to help:

Florida Congressman Byron Donalds ® said it best:

The saying “get woke, go broke” applies here, except in this case the people going broke are the people hurt by MLB’s decision to listen to arguments made by politically opportunistic Democrats like President Biden and liberal icon Stacey Abrams and cave to woke mobs.

A little backbone here would have ultimately done MLB some good in the long run, but unfortunately, backbones appear to be in short supply in certain corporate circles these days.

Quote:God, I love baseball” — this simple, poignant line from “The Natural” perfectly captures how I and millions around the world feel about our national pastime, a game intertwined with American tradition that transcends generations.

As a child, I remember bonding over games with my grandfather, a World War II veteran. As a teen, I have memories of striking out, riding the pine, and continuously making mistakes on the field while still thrilled I had the opportunity to play my favorite sport.

I’ve made scores of new memories as an adult. Between watching Matt LaPorta’s walk-off home run in person, countless hours listening to radio broadcasts, and time spent perusing the latest team news online, baseball is special. Yet, for conservatives, it’s clear baseball is also increasingly and extraordinarily vulnerable.

Only the most die-hard fan could endure the slew of scandals that have plagued baseball in recent decades: steroids, the ever-increasing disparity between large and small-market teams, and recent sign-stealing controversies have tarnished the game’s reputation.

Still, baseball has weathered these storms, just as it has endured world wars, economic depressions, terrorist attacks, natural disasters, and even the COVID-19 outbreak. During America’s darkest hours, the sport has provided a nine-inning escape, while also serving as an agent of unity. As such, the recent insidious injection of left-wing politics into Major League Baseball represents a major cultural tragedy, destroying one of America’s great institutions.

Some hints of the game’s downfall came last summer when the Cleveland Indians announced they were changing their team name. The decision was not made at the behest of the fan base — baseball fans, in general, were split on the decision, while Cleveland fans strongly opposed the change by a 55 percent to 33 percent margin — but was made to prevent a backlash against the team’s corporate sponsors. The big blow to baseball fans, however, was the announcement by Commissioner Rob Manfred to move both the MLB All-Star Game and MLB draft away from Atlanta in protest of Georgia’s new election integrity bill.

The optics of Manfred’s decision are ugly, with the announcement only a few days after public pressure from President Joe Biden. Moving the All-Star Game will cost the city of Atlanta up to $190 million while punishing the very fans that MLB claims to be defending. Manfred’s ruling sets an exceedingly dangerous precedent: if MLB can arbitrarily punish a state based largely on misinformation about a voting bill, what will stop them from bullying other cities based upon politics down the road?

Indeed, we’ve seen similar behavior already from the NBA over a so-called “bathroom bill.” What if MLB doesn’t like a state’s lack of gun control policies? What if MLB decides a state is too restrictive on abortion access? Of course, it’s worth noting these types of policies enacted by our entertainment institutions are almost always made to placate the left. There’s no discussion, for example, about moving sporting events from New York due to their allowance of late-term abortions.

The response from conservatives has been predictable, with prominent figures including Donald Trump, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, and other officials calling for a boycott of MLB, while Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-S.C., has aimed at MLB’s antitrust protections. Indeed, it also seems plausible conservative backlash has contributed in part to ratings losses for the NFL, NBA, the Grammy Awards Show, and the Oscars, for example.

Unfortunately, save for a tacit acknowledgment from NBA commissioner Adam Silver that some viewers would prefer the game to be less politicized, the creeping tide of “woke-ism” continues. A boycott of MLB, however, has the potential to be considerably more effective.

Major League Baseball was hemorrhaging viewers even before its ill-advised decision to “go woke,” with interest in the sport crashing to its lowest levels since 1937, leading to a flurry of rule changes in an attempt to spur interest among new fans. The shortened season and lack of fan attendance due to COVID-19 added to MLB’s misery, causing billions of dollars in lost revenue along with increasing debt.

Perhaps most significant is the upcoming labor negotiation, as the collective bargaining agreement between MLB owners and players is set to expire at the end of the season. It’s widely anticipated that these negotiations will be sufficiently contentious to delay the start of the 2022 season, alienating more fans and producing an even greater financial loss. Taken together, MLB is in a precarious position that renders it uniquely susceptible to the ill effects of a boycott.

The only thing worse than an American company relocating abroad is American companies poisoning their employees and customers against the constitutional republic that protects their rights, the economic system that enriches them, and our police and military that ensures their security. Every time a “woke” company goes bankrupt or a leftist Hollywood studio gets shuttered should be cause for a joyous celebration in the culture war. Conservatives should do everything in their power to make Major League Baseball the first high-profile victim.

RE: MLB Moves All Star Game To Colorado
Just a friendly reminder: It does not matter one bit what the voting laws that are on the books are.

What matters is..........WILL they be enforced? Look back at this recent election. If your city has a Soros bought and paid for DA and the state has a Soros AG, don't count on it.

This whole episode is simply overblown virtue signaling over having their methods of cheating made illegal. They will tell any lie, no matter how big to get their way.

Who remembers this - three weeks before the 2016 election?

Perhaps it's time to end MLB's anti-trust exemption.

Quote:Fox Sports 1 “Undisputed” co-host Shannon Sharpe on Monday commended Major League Baseball’s decision to move its All-Star Game and Draft out of Atlanta over Georgia’s new election law. The game has since been moved to Colorado.

Sharpe said he is “so proud of the MLB” for punishing Georgia economically for passing the new law to shore up election integrity and pushed other organizations to pull their events out of Georgia until something gets changed. He said other conservative states with similar laws should be “off the list.”

“I like the move by MLB. I like they’re taking a stand,” Sharpe stated. “And Skip, at some point in time, you’re going to have to put action to your words. You say you’re about inclusion; you say you’re about doing the right thing — at some point in time, you have to … put those words into action. And that’s what they’re doing, Skip. Now, you’re going to be relegated to where you can take this game to because there’s a lot of other states that are doing the exact same thing as Georgia — Texas, Florida. So, Florida, you’re off the list. Texas, you’re off the list. There’s a lot of states that are doing the exact same thing that Georgia did.”

He later added after arguing Republicans want it easier to own a gun than vote, “I’m glad MLB did it. I wish — look, the Masters is next weekend. It’s too hard to pull that out. But I wish the SEC Championship says as long as y’all got this, we’re not coming back to Georgia.”

RE: MLB Moves All Star Game To Colorado, Which Has Voter ID Laws, Significantly Less Dive
Quote:Comment|Print| A A
Former baseball Commissioner Fay Vincent says current MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred made "a serious mistake" by rushing to move the All-Star game out of Atlanta.

Vincent’s remarks came in a column posted by The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.

"Major League Baseball decided last week to move the All-Star Game out of Atlanta after the Georgia Legislature passed changes to the state’s voting laws that many, including President (Joe) Biden, called racist," he said.

"Activists urged Commissioner Robert Manfred to punish Georgia. By rushing to do so without first protesting the substance of the law, Mr. Manfred made a serious mistake.

"Organizations like Major League Baseball have sometimes participated in public debates over policy. Moving directly to an economic sanction suggests that Mr. Manfred believed the Georgia law required drastic intervention. But consider what he didn’t do: He didn’t limit the number of home games the Atlanta Braves will play. He’d need the approval of the players’ union to do that, and Braves owner John Malone would surely resist.

And he added: "To move the site of the All-Star Game is one thing; to ignore union and ownership powers is quite another."

Manfred announced last week the game would not be played in Atlanta as scheduled due to new voting laws approved in Georgia that critics consider restrictive.

"I have decided that the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport is by relocating this year’s All-Star Game and MLB Draft," Manfred said. "Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box."

Georgia officials estimated a loss of around $100 million based on moving the game from Truist Park.

In his column, Vincent said: "The midsummer All-Star Game is an exhibition that benefits only the city where it’s played. It was reported Tuesday morning that Denver will be the new host. The players will get paid no matter where the game takes place. MLB will get the same television revenue. The only people hurt by Mr. Manfred’s decision will be Atlanta’s stadium workers and local vendors."

Vincent, who served as commissioner from 1989-1992, said during his time overseeing American’s national pastime, "I learned that the American people view baseball as a public trust." And he said Americans want the game to "stand for the best and noblest of our national virtues."

"Major League Baseball can’t become a weapon in the culture wars, a hostage for one political party or ideology. It can’t be only for the rich or the poor, nor can it only be for one race, as it was until 1947. Baseball must always stand above politics and its dark elements of corruption, greed and sordid selfishness. It can’t go wrong by standing for national greatness."

He cautioned that Manfred "must be prudent."

"Perhaps he now sees how complicated these issues can become," he said. "I wish him well."

Quote:The Boston Herald called for the termination of Major Leagues Baseball’s (MLB) antitrust exemption in an editorial Tuesday.

“The anti-trust exemption for Major League Baseball has been debated for years — it’s time to end the league’s special status. As its recent actions have shown, it’s not just a sport,” the paper said.

“The MLB chose to politicize baseball by aligning its placement of the All-Star Game with the Democratic agenda,” which will cost Atlanta “about $100 million — money the state sorely needs as it struggles to recover from the revenue-gutting hit of the coronavirus pandemic,” they said about the game’s relocation to Denver.

The Boston Herald also claimed the MLB did not get their facts straight about Georgia’s election integrity law, which led MLB to oppose the legislation initially, writing, “The ability to get the facts straight about the new law apparently did not factor into the decision.”

The Herald continued, “Misinformation about the details of the voting law are widely touted as fact, and corporations have dutifully jumped on the condemnation bandwagon, notably Georgia-based businesses Coca-Cola and Delta Airlines.

“Provisions of the law actually expand voting access,” the paper went on, skewering Democrat talking points that say people in line to vote are not allowed to be given water. “And no, grandma won’t die of thirst while waiting to vote.”

Breitbart News reported Saturday the potential of terminating MLB’s antitrust exemption by Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Ted Cruz (R-TX), who have joined Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) in calling to terminate MLB’s antitrust exemption.

“Why does @MLB still have antitrust immunity? It’s time for the federal government to stop granting special privileges to specific, favored corporations—especially those that punish their political opponents,” Lee said. Later, Cruz responded to Lee, “EXACTLY right. And @SenMikeLee & I will be working hard to END MLB’s antitrust immunity.”

A 1922 Supreme Court decision ruled the MLB is a sport and not a business, handing an antitrust exemption to the MLB, which excludes The National Football League, National Basketball Association, and the National Hockey League.

RE: MLB Moves All Star Game To Colorado, Which Has Voter ID Laws, Significantly Less Dive
Quote:Major League Baseball’s Coors Field in Denver is named after a founder of the Heritage Foundation, Joseph Coors, the former president of Coors Brewing Company, who died in 2003 after setting up a legal foundation that challenged part of the Voting Rights Act.

Joseph Coors, a passionate supporter of former President Ronald Reagan and former presidential candidate Barry Goldwater, donated $250,000 in seed money to the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank in Washington D.C., which espouses “Building an America where freedom, opportunity, prosperity, and civil society flourish.”

“Without Joe Coors, the Heritage Foundation wouldn’t exist,” according to the Associated Press. Coors continued to support the foundation for many years with an annual contribution of $300,000.

Meanwhile, Reagan and Goldwater were greatly helped by Coors, who sponsored “Reagan’s political radio shows, which deployed his undoubted presentational skills to a national audience.” Upon Reagan’s successful political rise to the White House, Coors became an adviser in Reagan’s so-called “kitchen Cabinet” and was later nominated by Reagan to sit on the board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Coors additionally established the Mountain States Legal Foundation (MSLF), which was headed by James Watt to combat legal environmental constraints.

MSLF’s litigation work also encompasses the Voting Rights Act. MSLF filed an amicus brief in the U.S Supreme Court case Shelby County v. Holder challenging Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, which required that certain states had to get preclearance from the U.S. Department of Justice or a federal court before changing voting laws. In 2013, the Court in Shelby County struck down the decades-old formula to determining which states were subject to this onerous requirement because it was based on data from the 1970s.

Congress has not taken up the Court’ invitation to develop a modern formula, which the petitioners in Shelby County claim is because there is no longer clear data of geographically concentrated voter suppression in modern America.

Quote:...the Braves will increase their seating capacities to pre-pandemic levels next month, the team announced... Wednesday.

The Braves said Truist Park’s capacity will increase to 100% -- about 41,000 seats -- beginning with the May 7 game against the Philadelphia Phillies....
(The Braves) went to 50% seating capacities last week.

“We have had great success welcoming our fans back safely to Truist Park,” Braves President and CEO Derek Schiller said in a statement. “Our outdoor environment (and) the demand from our season-ticket holders and fans to watch us play in person, plus safety measures which are in place, make it feel that now is the right time to get back to full capacity at Truist Park.”
