We as fans and a community can change. We can tackle the issues of racism and racial injustice and make it a priority. Make our community welcoming for people of color, like these young men (and all our athletes in the other programs too). We can speak out against racism and hold people accountable for their part in all of this.
Saying nothing can be done to convince them to stay Is accepting that we can’t change and be better. It’s relegating our community to always being a backwoods racist area where ignorance runs rampant and rich white men want the young black men to shut up and just provide the entertainment, rather than ever bother speaking out about problems they face.
I’m sorry, I’m not willing to let this get swept under the rug. Even if these young men leave, will their replacements feel comfortable enough here to stay after they realize the community hasn’t made any progress over these next few years? To fix the problem, we’ve first got to admit the problem exists and then work towards the remedy. I’m not sure everyone even on here is willing to admit the problem yet though.
Very well said!

RE: Coach Desmond Oliver
Was Oliver ever a candidate for this job after Forbes left? He kind of alluded to that during an interview I saw with Sandos that is floating around out there. He said "it just didn't work out" or something to that effect. I only heard of the short list being Shay and Jans.

I think you are correct on all of those. I think Patterson is the guy in the blue hat? And yes I'm certain that is Silas with his back turned, the hair gives it away. Mo Schramm, the other walkon is there as well. Who is the other guy in the gold shirt? (not Charlie) He looks old enough to be a coach. I know it's just a picture but they all look happy, again can't tell the whole story with just a few pictures though. I do wish they all stay but nothing we can do about it.

I agree and this is well said. ESTU has always been a fortress for civil right and is a bright light in this area. Do people really think our athletes are a different subset of the rest of America? They have explained themselves many times and should not have to again. It is time for the region to change and support our athletes and coaches like Coach Shay. I think it can be done too. I will be supporting them 100%.

RE: Coach Desmond Oliver
I am waiting on his coaching staff being named/in place more so than the players.
He needs staff in place and at work ASAP. The current players can see who they will be
working with, they can be working the phones for replacements and the fans can get an idea
on what direction the team is going to go in.

I am sure they are already here (we have seen at least one)
But would be nice to know who so we can see the experience etc.
