RE: MBB Game 1 - Navy at the Kap!
FWIW, Rice only played 12 minutes. Dane may have given him the start as a returning starter from last season. Nelson was more effective and is capable of running an offense.
Collier/Wight combined for 29 points and 16 rebounds on 13-22 shooting. The rest of the team had 30 points and 13 rebounds on 10-35 shooting. Need some help from the guards.
The team was disorganized and just like last season seem to lack a vocal leader on the court. Dane needs to pick up the pace quickly.

MBB Game 1 - Navy at the Kap!
My most positive takeaway is that Collier really looked like a guy who was a 4-star recruit out of high school. He's gonna be a real threat all season in the low post. Hopefully teams game-planning for him will give our other guys space.

It’s only one game with a completely new roster, so I won’t take a ton of stock yet.
This seems to be a really similar offense to last year, an offense that struggles to get open shots.
Looks like a chore to make a basket.

MBB Game 1 - Navy at the Kap!
It’s clear the overall talent and athleticism is way improved, and the chemistry. Kudos to the coaches for that.
Still big question marks for me on in game coaching. How we never attacked the high post/FT line/Elbow area when Navy went 2-3 using Wight or Karasinski there is beyond me.
Our PG play on both ends needs to get a lot better in terms of running our O and staying in front of guys on D. I noticed coach had Case at PG for a little bit near the end probably to try to get better D.
I know it’s early but playing so many guys and player combos is really really hard for guys, especially on the perimeter, to get in rhythm. Obviously, the rotation will likely shorten but Dane and staff will need to figure out which guys to play when and ride them and I lack some confidence in them being able to do that.
I think our best 5 will be Nelson, Dorsey, Karasinski, Collier, and Wight. Mullins and Case both add some toughness on the wings and will play. Ayesa moved better last night and I still think he and Dorsey are our best 3 Pt threats.
Didn’t see Williams last night (probably will play depending on foul trouble), got minimal Lowe (don’t expect much run for him), and no Jake M (don’t expect him to get much run and wouldn’t shock me if he transfers after this year).
We could have a really solid year but it’ll take time for players and coaches and rotations to gel.
Thankful and hopeful that we have more talent, energy, and chemistry, but need to see it come together cohesively on the court for 40 minutes. Glad we took much better care of the ball too.

Great effort and team chemistry with vastly better talent!
In game adjustments still seem to be a huge challenge.

RE: MBB Game 1 - Navy at the Kap!
The pairing of the Women’s game with the Men's game — with the same opponent — was interesting. Also interesting was the different paths that the games took. Both games ended with a margin of victory of 15 points.
The Women started slowly, picked it up in the second quarter, took control in the third — amassing its biggest lead of 21 points — and coasted in the fourth quarter while giving generous minutes to subs. (In fact, I was impressed that EDD left the subs in as long as she did before finally reinserting the starters after Navy went on an 11-1 run to cut the margin to 8. The starters then had no problem getting the lead back to 15).
Meanwhile, the Men started well, were down only 2 at halftime, but then lost it at the 10:00 mark and got ice cold at the end to lose by 15.
Northeastern did the same thing yesterday with both of their teams playing Boston University. Their Men lost and their Women won by 1 point.
EDIT: To clarify, both of the NE/BU games were played at BU.

RE: MBB Game 1 - Navy at the Kap!
Was impressed with Navy's offensive design and execution. Navy ball movement and screening kept Tribe defense on its heels entire game. Navy played at a faster pace, and much of the game looked to be stronger than our guys. Mids will be tough on nights when they shoot 42% from beyond 3 pt line.
Was surprised turnovers were equal at ten, but maybe some of the poor Tribe shots registered as turnovers in my mind. Timing of turnovers matters also. Tribe doesn't appear to have much in the way of rim protection on the roster so defense needs to adjust to that reality. Was a tad disappointed but am hoping when the in-game player rotations have the benefit of increased familiarity, offensive and defensive execution improves.

Collier is a solid rim protector. Three blocks and very active around the basket.

I like the potential of the high-low game with Ben's ability to operate in the post and Noah's ability to create a mismatch from the high post. Curious if he can knock down that free throw line/elbow jumper since most bigs will be forced to sag off in respect to his quickness off the dribble.
