One Sweet 16 in 13 years is not good enough for a program like Cincinnati.

Just crazy that he went to the Final Four in his 2nd year at UCLA.

He had some really good years, though. Getting past the S16 takes some luck along the way. It's not the most complete metric to use. But I agree, it would seem he would get past it a time or 2 with the teams he had.

I just don't remember Cronin having any great talents while at Cincy.

He had some guys who he developed into good\great college players. Now that he is at UCLA and recruiting is easier...I guess the jump in success makes sense. UCLA is a much easier job the Cinci.

It is like comparing Penny's results with Juwan's results.

Michigan is a much much much easier job than Memphis.

Given the bias in favor of the B1G, all a coach has to do to get a tourney invite is a just above .500 record with a couple of Q1 wins. Most B1G teams purposely limit their OOC exposure so they don't risk exposure. They can get all the Q1 opportunities needed thru in-conference games, win a couple & they're in. Look at MI St.

Don’t forget that ESPN will also set up a Challenge against another P5 conference, ensuring everyone gets a Q1 or Q2 game, while increasing the conferences’ strength of schedule.

Just think how awesome the Metro could have been in football if FSU would have just said yes rather than remaining independent in football.

I can't see Coach Penny being confrontational with his players. So, yes, we could have it worse.

The ones that entered the transfer portal just couldn't fit into the real system Coach Penny wanted at Memphis. It takes a lot of physical stamina, mental stamina, lots of conditioning, shooting high % FTs when you're exhausted, hitting good %'s from inside and outside the arc, etc.

On top of all that, to be able to put 100% full court defensive pressure.

So, you will have some who enter the portal this year, because they now know what to expect next year from Coach Penny.

But, at the end of the day, Coach Penny only does all this to make the kids successful on and offcourt. He REALLY does care about his players, the city and the school.

RE: Report: Cincinnati Men's Basketball Coach John Brannen Suspended
It is amazing the difference that a couple of months make. The offense gives everyone, 1 through 5, opportunities to have the offense run through them. There is a lot of freedom and shots for everyone. If either Williams or Nolley stay, we can be very good with the nucleus that will remain and the freshmen. IF we are able to somehow sign a top notch point guard, we will be top 10 good.

Another thing that will benefit us, is that there should be an acceptable difference in playing time between the top performers and those that don't get it right away. With almost everyone being a sophmore this year, for sure there was a lot of resentment when some players played more. The freshman want to play, but it should be acceptable if they don't get as much run as the returning players. I would have liked for Baugh to stay, but him leaving clears room for someone with a lot more potential, to step up and get minutes.

UC has HUGE money. More than UTK. The UC endowment fund is well over a billion dollars. But I'm not sure if a school can dip into its endowment fund for sports related matters.

Don't think so. It will have to be booster money that bails them out from these hijinks - so how deep are the booster's pockets?

Maybe the folks at Cincinnati realize that Brannen is not "the guy", and they are cutting their losses (just like we did with Tubby, cutting him loose after only 2 yrs).

Maybe, this is a good thing.... The AAC needs Cincinnati to be a good team, and Brannen is about to run out of Cronin's players.

They have shown no interest or tenancy to use their endowment funds to finance athletics (and most schools don't).

Cronin was a teddy bear compared to Bob Huggins... I just assumed the baseline 'azzhole' factor was a 9 in Cincy. After all, they don't recruit choir boys.

Yeah...I'm glad somebody mentioned that difference. UCLA is a calmer gentler fast paced team.... not built on brutality. lol OK so that's an exaggeration. But Cronin is different too.

Cronin's Cincy players seemed to be bigger and tougher than we were....and meaner lol. And lordy, did Cronin get into it with the refs. He was a show in himself.

They played him dirty.. Cincy wanted to fire Brannen with a cause so they don't have to pay him all his money.. Brannen and the AD were not even in speaking terms anymore.. They made that decision long before, they were just waiting for the right excuse to fire him.. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they orchestrated the whole situation with some of the players... College athletics is one dirty world!

Michigan is a little better job than Michigan , maybe..

What made it easier for Howard is that he took over a program that had won a game in the ncaa tournament 3 years in a row before he took the job, Penny took over a job with 4 straight ncaa misses and one legit D1 player left over from Josh - Tubby left no D1 players he recruited for Penny- Penny had to start from scratch

But you knew all of this, for some reason you find joy in putting dow the University that you claim to support.
