...convenience isn’t as important as often assumed. Almost everyone who cares enough to vote will brave the inconveniences of in-person voting to do so, whether that’s because the inconveniences aren’t really so great, or because they care enough to suffer them.
Exactly the point I have been making for years re: voter ID. People who care about voting will do what they need to do to have it. People who would not go down the street to get a free ID are not likely voters.
It was not "convenient" for me to vote this year - leg problems made standing in line a problem. I waited until the lines were shorter. Nobody came out to give me water or to offer me a chair. I did what needed to be done. I gave my ID on request to the election judge - a man I went to high school with. (Hi Phil. Hi, OO - ID please.) No big deal.

Uncanny that you were known as OO in high school! :)
But seriously, this reminds me of a story:
In the turning of Willy's Statue in April 1988, the one student who got caught* was my friend Patrick Dyson. As the son of a Rice Chem E professor, he had grown up around campus and was well known to the campus police. Upon pulling over his truck as it drove away from the Academic Quad that early morning, the campus police said to him: "Let's see some ID, Patrick."
Rice's Proctor (the title before Dean of Undergraduates) was Ed Holt, Professor of Civil Engineering. While Patrick was placed on suspension and fined, Professor Holt had the good sense to (1) be impressed by the prank and (2) not press Patrick too hard (or at all) to name his crewmates. Nor, in those days, was there any thought of requiring a coerced public apology or mandatory re-education camp. Likewise, there was no chance whatsoever that other students who weren't involved would anonymously supply names.
How times have changed!

Oh, yes, and it is because of those changes I take steps to protect my personal information from EVERYBODY. Some years back, on another site, I tried to make friendly with one of the ardent leftists by sharing some personal information. He used the info to invade my privacy and attack me, and put me in jeopardy in a $10,000,000 lawsuit. I swore then not to reveal personal info to anybody, although some posters here have learned (from me) details, including my name.
If I were to meet you at a football game (again), I would introduce myself as Optimistic Owl. Same if we were to meet later for drinks. And I trust you much more than some.
Details: I actually went to HS AND Junior High with Phil. Lucky SOB looks the same as he did 60 years ago.
The lawsuit was eventually settled, after 6 years, in our favor, and instead of being on the hook for $10M, we collected about $2M. But that leftist put everything I had and my children's futures in jeopardy in his efforts to prove how bad conservatives are. Never trust a zealot, especially one who thinks anything goes in the quest for correcting political wrongs.
