So the guy who avg'd 3.4 pts/games gets to the rim off the dribble better than Boogie?

He absolutely does.

03-lmfao. I too believe Baugh could get to the rim off the dribble effectively but when you play 12 mins per game & only avg 3.4 pts, it's virtually impossible to draw that conclusion while Boogie was
getting to the rim off the dribble several times per game in his 20+mins per game. And no other guards were doing that effectively. And BTW, my comment that BOOGIE could get to the rim off the dribble was in response to the idea some have expressed that he could not get/create his own shot.

And don't be like some of these morons that argue relentlessly around here, if Baugh plays more that 12 mins on avg, it only shows he is less effective.

How are you creating your own shot when you shoot the worst 2 point % on the team...THE WORST.

Boogie would drive but most times he was trying to score over defense...Hence a man was between him and the basket. That is why his 2point % was the worst and to top that off he didn't get to the FT line.

Don't get me wrong...Boogie was a good player last year but he was not a facilitator.

But he definitely wasn't getting to the rim with ease...It was a struggle for him to score at the rim (Getting to the FT line or Making baskets)

He has been more of a gritty point forward for the Tigers. But , he was/is MORE THAN CAPABLE of bringing ball up court and running offense.
Also, many of the miami highlights I have seen of Earl Timberlake have him running the point.
Deandre, Earl, Lomax rotating at the point would be a great lineup. Of course, Deandre and Earl could also spend time at the 3 spot.
I worry more about picking up a big man if we lose Cisse.

I’d be more worried if we didn’t have Dandridge. Maybe he makes a junior leap.

I don’t trust a big who has had knee issues for over 2 years.

I agree we would need another big. I just like knowing we have Dandridge and his two years of experience lurking about.

He shot 2 total free throws in 3 games and 9 in the other. He averaged 10.3 points, shot 38.2% from the field, and 43.8% of his 2 point shots. He rarely did anything pretty well. He was either very good or not great.

2 Point Shot Percentage
62.5 DJ
51.5 Williams
46.2 LQ
43.8 Boogie
40.0 Nolley

FWIW; Warren shot 2 pointers at a 55.2% clip.

Memphis made his list of seven schools last year and Boogie Ellis and Damion Baugh are both leaving, meaning the Tigers are in need of backcourt help. Memphis brings in four freshmen but none can really step into a primary ball-handling role and none will likely shoulder the scoring load that McClung can.

Penny is notorious for being aggressive in the transfer portal and it’s likely he’ll make another run at Mac McClung. Penny has already added Miami forward Earl Timberlake into the mix for next season as he tries to build on the NIT Championship the Tigers won this spring.

We've got 3 freshmen coming in (as of today) - not 4. And no mention of Warren coming too. Which is why I doubt this guy's insight.

Point guards and power forwards only. We especially do NOT need anyone at the 2-3. The guy takes a million shots and doesn't shoot well. He averages 2 assists per game and as many turnovers.

FFS, no thanks.

No one is diminishing the competition down the stretch. And I love the shots that Boogie hit. What we are saying, along with Fraschilla and everyone else, is that Boogie is not a classic PG. If he was, we wouldn't have seen DJ and Deandre running more point than he was.

You are describing Boogie as a Shooting Guard.

I'm still waiting on some one to define the "classic PG". And then describe how'd that fits in the Memphis offense/defense scheme.

wiki is your friend...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_guard

And you believe that describes a position in the Memphis offense?

When you have a bunch of guys who cannot get their own shot on the floor...You need someone to facilitate the offense.

Boogie was not that guy...Heck Boogie struggled to get his own shot most nights.

Boogie is a good player but he must play with a facilitator if you want your offense to be successful. Without Lomax the only other consistent facilitator we had was Williams. That is why when Williams got in foul trouble we struggled.

I wonder if Williams would be effective playing the point.

How is a player that according to KenPom, turned it over 1 out of every 4 possessions considered a good facilitator? Maybe I’m reading it wrong but that’s what I’m getting from numerous outlets.

He did, but he was much better than Boogie and Baugh.

Yeah not sure that stat is right or you are not stating it right.

Surely that stat is not saying that Williams turned it over 25% of possessions while he was on the floor.
