If he is suggesting that masks are good for preventing the common cold and the flu, so what! I'm not going to wear masks for the rest of my life.

Sure there are poorly constructed masks that are worthless but over all what we have seen is the common cold occurrences are significantly lower. Allergy occurrences are significantly lower. The Flu season was one of the lowest eve since we began recording. Sanitation, distancing and masks have proven throughout history to be deterrents for air or blood borne disease/pathogens. You have to go back to the dark ages to find much support for masks don't do any good arguments. The next segment was going to be on new cancer treatments.

I couldn't remain to hear the rest and I don't know where the guy was from. I won't argue with anyone on this. I'm just sharing so say what you will. Hope I did the good Dr. Justice in summarizing the interview.

Well, they need to change what they teach in med school, then. Because I know docs, nurses, pharmacists who don't trust the development time because they've been instructed over and over how long it takes to develop medicines.

FWIW my doc advised the vax and I've taken 1 dose so far. But it's not just neanderthal thinking to not trust the development time, when professors and docs have told you otherwise.

And my observation of the problem with masks is that COVID data is simply not correlating with mask usage. States without mask mandates and areas where they are simply not worn, are doing as well - sometimes better - than areas with the strictest mask mandates.

But maybe it was easier since they know what the virus is because it came from the lab? Don't you think that's how several companies were able to develop the vaccine so quickly?

When Trump announced Operation Warp Speed and said we’d have a vaccine by the end of the year, what I remember is NO ONE believed him. Not even the experts, if we can trust the media. They were all over it with fact checks.

No, it’s because the first ones were mRNA, which hadn’t been done in humans before. And the FDA decided that the urgency of doing an emergency approval was more important than the potential risk of releasing vaccines that didn’t have full approval yet.

Correct

1) yes the viruses are based on mRNA which speeds up the development time because live virus cultures don’t have to be grown inside of cells for vaccine development. Also mRNA allows us to have a genetic blue print faster and modification of the vaccine is much quicker.
2) the FDA speeding it up had to do with virus manufacturers doing testing steps in parallel rather than sequentially and the use of an emergency use authorization (EUA). There were still several clinical phases that were done and a lot of safety data compiled. They did not rubber stamp the vaccines by any means
3) mRNA technology has been under study for a long time in Germany. This is the first worldwide vaccine to use it and it has promising research potential to treat cancer, malaria, and more. The technology behind it both allows us to respond viruses more rapidly and with greater precision (e.g. certain types of cancer).

A radiologist came in my store yesterday--visiting from new Jersey....She spent all of last year taking pics of covid patients. It was not fun. She was wearing a fancy mask that she swears by. Envo

A neurologist and his wife won't pass the threshold till we get our masks on inside. And they've been vaccinated twice

My point is I have never heard medical docs or nurses say to me don't wear a mask because they don't work. And I see quite a few nurses from the hospital here and there.

There's also a substantial segment of the nursing population that has no idea what they are talking about, past their education, because they simply have no idea what research is.

My wife took her 90 year old dad to two Drs appointments in Jackson Tn yesterday. At one, None of the medical staff wore masks. Receptionist did. My wife and her dad did. No comments were made to the need. We are fast moving to the point where there will be limited or no mandatory mask requirements. I hope we don’t regret it.

Exactly, I listen to my doctors not the politicians and I live in TX where the governor doesn't give a sh*t. I've made my rounds to the dentist, knee doctor, eye doctor and primary physician the past few months. If they are wearing masks I don't know why I shouldn't.

My cousin in New Orleans in a pulmonologist and I saw him on NBC news one night when it first hit pandemic level. A few weeks later I texted him and he told me wear a mask.

nurses are the worst when picking up meds. "I don't need to talk to anyone, Im a nurse!"

hour later they call wondering why they're nauseous after taking their Flagyl with a glass of wine.

He said he was glad most people will eventually come around and the guy should thank those willing to wear masks and get the vaccine for his ability to be safe. First the science behind the development of the vaccine was the safest and passed the strictest of validation of any vaccine ever developed. Don't be fooled by the quicker development and release of our first two. It is recent discoveries and technology advancement that was able to make it happen. Our ability to catalog diseases and replicate the most meager of changes to variants is driven by technological advancements through the efforts of places like St Jude in Memphis (love we got a mention). He said how strange is it we celebrate medical advancement in almost all cases but suddenly politics gets thrown in and we hear individual rights says I don't have to get vaccinated. Maybe so but your emphasis on individual rights means you are asking others to make the world safe for you. (saw the use of coward earlier in the thread so it it a contrast the way this Dr. sees it). He said he was not necessarily advocating for a vaccine passport but how strange is it that if you get the vaccine and you get a card that shows you had it why would you manufacture reasons to not show it for the safety of others. To me (he said) it is another way of limited the ability of society to move forward when people choose to place their rights above the many. Yes here have been some bumps with the one shot doses. There have even been some deaths but even the one dose vaccine which was billed as less effective but still viable has had problems well below the typical vaccine for most diseases. They are investigating to see if it is an identifiable correlation and it will be corrected if so. He also said that politics had no bearing on how quickly scientist responded. IN fact thy were already working on millions of variants of many diseases so they are ready to respond to anything that comes out of 4-5 hotspots for generating pandemics. Covid wasn't the first and it won't be the last but we are getting better at identifying and attacking even the worst of threats. He did compliment President Trump for begging conversations with the pharm industry for responding to manufacturing and distributing. He just didn't finish the job before he left office for the next administration to take credit. A true missed opportunity.

But maybe it was easier since they know what the virus is because it came from the lab? Don't you think that's how several companies were able to develop the vaccine so quickly?

Finally someone with facts. The vaccines are overwhelming good and have been in development for decades.

For the folks worried that you will be wearing masks the rest of your life or showing vaccine cards, that won’t happen. The mask wearing days are numbered. The vaccine cards might happen in some northern cities, but it won’t happen in the South.

They are doing the opposite of begging. The tone and reality is more along the lines of "since you are already in the neighborhood..."

I have never had vaccinations or flu shots since I was 5 years old. I'm not against them but my view is that they aren't for me. The bottom line is that given that I never get any kind of sickness, catch a mild cold for a couple of days every 5 years (which is unheard of up here), never get the flu, I should also have a strong immune system to whatever is in that vaccine.

I've either already had covid, or I'm never going to get it. I'm still going to get the vaccine just because it will make those around me happy and feel secure. I think politicians and people who make it political and talk about people without masks like they are serial killers are despicable. I don't have an issue with people that won't take the vaccine, but it is wrong to suggest that those that are for it are crazy.

Quote:My wife was required by her work to get it and she has been on my case about getting one.

The most important thing, is that I'm not wishing anything bad to happen to your wife, or anyone, but let's pretend I'm an American who is forced to take it. This is what I would do.

1. Have my employer sign a document confirming that they are forcing me to take the vaccine as a condition of employment
2. Have my employer sign a document agreeing to be held liable if I suffer any side effects or health conditions due to the vaccine (obviously could be a risky move)
3. Hope that I get quite sick (but don't die) for 1-3 months because of the vaccine
4. Participate in whatever class action suit will emerge against employers that force employees to take the vaccine
5. Sue the living crap out of them either way
