2023 Hypothetical March Madness
If the P5 and BE (and perhaps the A10 and MWC) left the NCAA to run there own tournament, what would the Big Dance look like?

26 autobids—48 teams total.

As the old NCAA cash dries up and the old tv deal gets replaced with a much smaller one the financial viability for remaining “D1” dissipates for a lot of schools and conferences and we start to see an exodus for lower cost D2 play.

Eventually the field shrinks to 32 or 36.

Twelve conference champs (about 144 teams in all) plus 36 at large. Top 16 teams get first round bye. First three rounds played in first week, and Elite 8 the following week at a single site.
