He looks to be their closer.
Surely they call him the Wizard?

I included his name because just I wanted to type Zoz.
Hughes gets a 1 out infield single. Nothing more. 8 LOB for the Owls.

B9:
Leadoff HBP ... with a 2-2 count. GRRR!!!
(Has anyone kept track of the 2-strike plunks Owl pitchers have? Seems like a lot this year.)

3-3 heading to bottom of the 9th inning, and, true to firm, we gift the leadoff batter (the #8 hitter with a .000 AVG) with a HBP. I think we can guess how this game is going to end.
Wow, their #9 hitter fails to get the bunt down, and Wood gets a critical strikeout.
Please, no more free passes or wild pitches.

RE: Rice Baseball @ MTSU
B9, cont'd:
Quick-faking a bunt on every pitch, MT's Lopez gets four straight balls from Wood. Grrr!
2 on, no outs.
Wiff, then a bouncer to first ... 4-3, runners advance.
Keystone Cops bunt ends the game:
Bunt in front of the plate. Pitcher covers, catcher is out, too ... so no one is at home to make any play there to stop the winning run from scoring.
It didn't even matter, though, as Wood slipped and couldn't make any play anywhere. Sigh.
4-3, MT. Final.
Owls are now 0-2 this weekend in Murfreesboro. Grrr!!!

Geez, can we just throw strikes. This is a weak hitting team, with only two quality batters in their entire lineup. But Wood hits the leadoff batter then, after a strikeout, walks the next guy on 4 pitches, bring up MTSU's two best hitters.

Request denied. Walk moves winning run to 2B. 1 out. 3-1 gets out 2. Winning run at 3B.
And MTSU wins on squeeze. This just keeps spiraling downward.

Pathetic, but oh, so predictable. Greenwood and Wood's inability to throw strikes results in two consecutive losses....and blows quality pitching in both games.

Just checked on game 3. Looks like Owls are down 0-1 in T5. Crappy video is even worse with the long shadows. Can’t get Livestats to work for game 3. Still shows game 2 final.

Rice has scored 4 in the top of the 5th to take a 4-1 lead. Six straight singles after having just 1 hit entering the inning.

Owls have 6 hits in the inning. 4-1 still only one out with 2 on. Pitching change.

MTSU with tying run at the plate, 1 out in the bottom of the 7th. Holcomb still under 100 pitches, but not much. He has a career-high 10 K's.

Owls win 4-1 to gain the split. Tidy 97-pitch CG by Holcomb.

Nice job by Holcomb.
We desperately needed that one.

Owls with a chance to split the 4 game series today, down 1-0 after 3. Owls have only 2 hits. Deskins on the mound for the Owls.

T4:
Owls take 2-1 lead on a 2-out, 2-run HR by Bulman, hit halfway up MT's "Wall of Champions" beyond the left-center fence.
