Texas Following Georgia
Quote: Republicans controlling the Texas Senate passed SB 7 on Thursday, a bill restricting Texans’ access to the vote by imposing new limits on early voting, a prohibition on drive-in voting, and making it illegal for officials to send out voter applications, among other restrictions.

The GOP-led voter suppression effort comes after Democrats participated in the 2020 elections at historic levels, with even some traditionally conservative suburbs showing signs of a leftward shift. Following President Joe Biden’s victory over Donald Trump last year, and unsuccessful Republican-led attempts to overturn the results, conservative lawmakers across the country have introduced hundreds of bills designed to suppress the vote, including the repressive law passed in Georgia last week.

Can’t win on their ideas and candidates, so might as well keep people from voting for their opponents. Sad.

Tom you moron. All we want is people to prove who they are when they vote and we insist that people only vote one time. No mail in voter fraud or vote harvesting by you and your progressive socialist buddies.

Voter suppression?

Its amazing that people have problems with....

1. Verification of the voter
2. Having a defined limited time to vote in person
3. Limiting mail in / absentee voting for specific use cases

Democrats see an asskicking coming their way if this continues in a few more states. WI SC already ruled their mail-in system was unconstitutional.

Proof of ID is required to do pretty much everything in this country...

no one is buying that requiring obtaining an ID is such a hardship...

For the very rare and becoming rarer person who is elderly and was born at home and might not have a birth certificate I am sure exceptions can be made on a case by case basis using some other means to provide identification - to get to their advanced years and claim SS, Medicare, etc. they have some proof of who they are.

But no comment on CrimsonPhantom who starts 25+ threads a day? Either he's on a payroll to do it or I'm concerned he hasn't left the house in 10 years.

Personally I think they're both paid to kvetch online.

one brings substance, depth and conversation to the table, the other does nothing but troll, deflect, hijack threads and call people vulgar names.

Any other questions?

Great hopefully all RED states will do this leaving libtards only blue states to move their pointless sporting events to. Who cares about MLB all star game, for that matter the Super Bowl, those make the respective leagues lots of money but don't really do much for host cities.

Seriously doubt this is the case. The idea that putting ballots in a drop box and expecting all to be perfectly honest is ludicrous. You have to show ID to get any type of license so why should it be any different for voting. Oh, because that might erase deceased people's voting rights.

Harris County Texas tried to pull the same stunt as some of the other states finding over 100,000 misplaced wink wink votes days after the election

Moronic. Texas and pretty much every state has plenty of safeguards already in place to make it next to impossible to mass produce fake ballots and get them counted.

Don't fall for the big lie.

yep... and all of them were strictly adhered to last fall, no one cut corners, or mailed ballots out that had not been requested, or accepted ballots that had not been verified. the safeguards that are in place were all followed....

that right Tom?

I don't see the issue with drive-in voting. What is the difference in verification between someone walking up to the polls or a poll worker going to an elderly person sitting in their car

RE: Texas Following Georgia
Quote:Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick slammed American Airlines on Thursday evening after the airline called out the state’s new security measures to protect elections, claiming that a representative from the company called him and told him that the head of the company didn’t even read the bill.

“Earlier this morning, the Texas State Senate passed legislation with provisions that limit voting access,” American Airlines said in a statement that echoed remarks made by leftists who have attacked recent measures to secure elections across the country. “To make American’s stance clear: We are strongly opposed to this bill and others like it.”

“Any legislation dealing with how elections are conducted must ensure ballot integrity and security while making it easier to vote, not harder,” the company said at the end of their statement. “At American, we believe we should break down barriers to diversity, equity and inclusion in our society – not create them.”

Patrick fired back in a statement shortly after American Airlines released their statement.

“As Lt. Governor of Texas, I am stunned that American Airlines would put out a statement saying ‘we are strongly opposed to this bill’ [Senate Bill 7] just minutes after their government relations representative called my office and admitted that neither he nor the American Airlines CEO had actually read the legislation,” Patrick said. “We heard these same outcries claiming voter suppression in 2011 when Texas passed the photo voter ID bill. In fact, just the opposite occurred. Voter turnout in Texas soared from 7,993,851 in 2012 to 11,144,040 in 2020, a 39 percent increase. Gubernatorial election voter turnout has increased by 76 percent since photo voter ID was passed.”

“Texans are fed up with corporations that don’t share our values trying to dictate public policy. The majority of Texans support maintaining the integrity of our elections, which is why I made it a priority this legislative session,” Patrick added. “Senate Bill 7 includes comprehensive reforms that will ensure voting in Texas is consistent statewide and secure.”

Patrick ended the statement by highlighting that American Airlines has tried to engage in promoting far-left policies in the state of Texas. “By the way, this is the same American Airlines that in 2017 led the fight to try to force us to allow boys to play girls sports in Texas and take away their scholarships,” Patrick said. “They are probably still fighting for that today and it is likely they have not read Senate Bill 29 either.”
