I don't see it. He's a Roy guy, but he didn't play for UNC, he's not "family". That and his coaching record at UAB and Stanford is not impressive enough to overcome it.

The first big ripple: Kansas and Bill Self just agreed to a lifetime contract extension.

That's not surprising at all. I don't think you're going to see a huge shuffling of coaches taking other jobs because of Roy's retirement. I think they know who they want as their next coach and it's going to be a UNC connection to the hire. UAB is absolutely in no jeopardy of losing Andy.

Brad Stevens isn't leaving the NBA unless he is fired. And even if he is fired he would probably be snatched up by another NBA team. Based off some of Steven's responses when he was asked about the Indiana job he didn't seem to be interested in coming back to coach in college. I bet he would do analyst stuff before taking a college job.

All true, but UNC isn't Indiana, particularly today's IU. It's a top five, probably top three job. That's one he has to think seriously about if he has any thought of ever coaching a college team again.

I doubt they can get him though.

And UNC isn't the NBA.

Looks like Oklahoma is going to hire Porter Moser from Loyola-Chicago.

Brad currently makes 3.67 mil a yr. Roy was making 3.9 mil. Brad wouldn't leave for an extra $23,000 and I'm not entirely sure UNC would offer Stevens Coach Williams current salary.

But thanks for the chuckle anyways.....I needed it.

Edited: The top 5 NBA coaches currently make over 8 million a year with Greg Popovich topping the list with $11 mil a year and Rick Carlisle at #5 with & 8 mil a year. https://www.essentiallysports.com/nba-ne...u-stunned/ The top 5 Men's CB coaches make over $4 million with Calipari being the highest at $8 mil a year and at #5 is Rick Barnes at Tennessee at $4.7 million. https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salarie...all/coach/

I think the bigger issue is not whether he would accept the $23K raise, but if he would take it after he is fired by the Celtics--which he likely will be soon. Or, whether the blue bloods at NC would want to bring in a coach that recently was fired.

Personally, I think Stevens would be a great hire for them, but many who know better than I do suggest that they will want to go with someone with connections to their program.

Still not significant, but that's $230k, not $23k.

Correct. My math is failing me...lol. I'm not saying Stevens would never come back to college coaching but it will only happen if an NBA job isn't available if he is fired by the Celtics. His responses to the IU job didn't strike me as a coach that's wants to come back to the grind of recruiting and such. And my opinion is IU = UNC.

Just my opinion of course. But the chuckle was blazerjay referring to UNC job paying more than an NBA job.

Brad is one of the most hated coaches by his fan base since Rob Eshan and Neil Callaway.

I like Brad. The celtics have drafted well enough, but they haven’t gotten a boba fide superstar. The inability to attract a top free agent is why he doesn’t look like the best coach in the world in Boston.

We are seeing four top coaches in the Women's Final Four but none are being mentioned for any major MBB job. What does that say about sexism in sports? Men can successfully coach women, but the best women can't coach men? NOTE: My stepson had a female DI in "boot camp" in Del Rio , TX and said she was hard as nails on them

Rob was a horrible head coach. Callaway was a horrible head coach that was forces on UAB by the BOT as part of their plan to destroy UAB athletics.

UNC promoted Hubert Davis to replace Williams. Kind of surprising but it must be nice not having to pay someone else's buyout.

Davis was the first name mentioned for the job so it shouldn't be a surprise at all.

I suppose Haase hasn't done enough at Stanford to be Roy's heir apparent.

Oh I understand they were not great coaches but it doesn't explain why some people here hate them.
