MyBB What is Penny doing?
IMO he is preparing players to play in the NBA. Those who will make it there will stay. Those making excuses for themselves and who afraid to make the effort will look for an easier spot.

Maybe in a case or two, but you better take a look at the roster because most of what's left are not playing at the next level.

There is no one on this years roster(including Boogie and DJ) that will be a consistent NBA rotation player. A few might get a look and they might even get lucky on an injury riddled team to get some run for a season. But nothing more than that.

RE: What is Penny doing?
I sure would like to hear from Penny. See if he can shed some positive vibes on how we will move forward. He may need a minute to collect his thoughts after today though, so I don't blame him.

It is pretty amazing how he got this team to play as the top defense in college bball. Usually defense is based on effort and coaching, and if you have a few of your main contributors thinking of transferring but still giving that effort on defense, that is a testament to Penny and the rest of the staff getting the most out of his players.

It speaks well of Penny definitely but it also speaks well of the transferring players that they were able to fully commit to the team goal even knowing that they were probably gone after the season.

lol
There are better NBA prospects in Nolley, Williams, Cisse than there are in the 3 leaving.

you think the three that left today are likely NBA prospects?

Simply an observation based upon the premise of the thread, it states those who remain will make it - I think not likely. And the likelihood of those who have transferred are about the same..

RE: What is Penny doing?
Penny is trying to run a pro style offense (somewhat). Also, HS kids, all of them, want to make it to the NBA. He has to have a pro perspective in order to sell top prospects on coming to Memphis. Just like every other program. I have no problem with what he is doing.

I also think it has no impact on our record. We've basically had 3 different rosters in 3 years. that's not a recipe for success.

Yeah, the transfer portal is overflowing and just about every team is affected by it. I hate it, but it's the nature of today's beast. I trust Penny to fill voids that come up; in fact, I think he'll find better players than those who are leaving.

Y’all forgot about the other tigers that entered the portal earlier in the year?

At least 5 so far.

Over/under for total transfers from this years team?

Vegas has it at 7.5

If what we have left is what is coming back (I doubt it) then we need to add guards guards guards around them. Got more than enough guys for the front court.

It was bound to happen when the NCAA removed the "have to sit out a year" part of the transfer rule.

Take the under on that.
3 of the 5 are non-issues. Obvious. Will only miss their smiling faces and inability to score.
The other 2 were disappointing, but not unexpected.
1 more would not be surprising. Anything higher would be.

But...but...but...Atlanta just said that if Baugh hits a few more 3 pointers he will be in the NBA. Atlanta should have a talk with this Izzo guy, whoever he is, and set him straight.
