The initial leak was actually back in March. But I’m sure there’ve been many more since then.

As for whether the leaker(s) “did nothing but hurt their cause” — well, that depends on what their cause(s) were/are. Occam’s Razor is a good start, but it doesn’t always apply.

One cause that hasn’t been hurt at all by this whole episode: The willingness of the MSM, and the NYT in particular, to throw as much slime as it possibly can at any pro-Trump politician who catches its eye.
