A rematch with a healthy Rodney in Chattanooga would have been icing on the cake though. Too bad it didn’t happen.

Yes, half the fans had left the game. The return made the score 34 - 0.

The CAA should designate 4-17 for a conference championship game likely UD vs JMU. This would benefit the conference and provide a quality game for the fans.

Albany calling it quits because they have too many injuries is a real bad look for them. Makes me wonder if they will bail in the fall once they have no path to the playoffs.

Cig had it right last week before W&M when he said "we have a football team, we are going to play". He wasn't worried that we had some key personnel out, because good teams overcome adversity. Hopefully we can find a game for next weekend.

I understand finances are tight, and a spring season is unusual, but this really has to stop. When this happens it has impacts on teams that were counting on those games. Once a season has started, there should be financial penalties involved for canceling, along with forfeits on the teams permanent record.

Reading the Tick's board it does not sound like they will want to play us. Hope W&M will step up and give us the second/makeup game.

Quote:We had 18 Spring practice days leading up to 3 games.Almost exactly what Russ wanted in the 1st place.

We are also banged up on the OL and RB positions.Plenty of ACL repairs.

Honestly at this point I think we (the CAA) should just bag the season. This isn't working

As long as there are playoffs and a trophy to be claimed, JMU should stay in.

If they (or any team) were to do that in a Fall season, they'd likely be kicked out of CAA Football.

Huge asterisk there because that would require an effective commissioner leading the charge. We have Joey D doing photo ops with W&M's Quidditch team.

PS Joey is a Hufflepuff.

RE: Week 7: FB at Ticks
I don't like that some CAA programs choose not to play but I am not surprised and I don't 100 percent blame the programs.

It's simple, the programs in the CAA don't have the same commitments to athletics. This the case every year, covid just exposed this fact.

I read in a sports blog that a strategy that mid major can take is, "be the big spender in your conference" approach, "always win, get whatever exposure always beating the weak offers".

I call this the, "don't compete against peers" approach.

Sound familiar?

This is technically true. Sentiment on Elon boards (1-5) is they are done for the season, though maybe we could sweet talk them into another game on 4/17. Doesn't seem super likely.

RU is a little hard to read. Their coach wasn't excited about playing this spring, and they now have a bunch of injuries (a common refrain). If they play W&M and win next week they are in the hunt for the AQ. But that may also be a reason to avoid playing us on 4/17.

Even worse scenario for us ... RU vs W&M gets "postponed" and they decide to play each other on 4/17.

I'm *really* hoping we can talk Villanova into a game next week.

RE: Week 7: FB at Ticks
UNH game with URI was just cancelled due to COVID cases at UNH. WMUR (NH's TV station) just reported next week's UNH-Stony Brook game is now in jeopardy.

UNH played their opener on March 5th and now has had 3 straight games cancelled with a likely 4th game gone. All that would be left would be their game on 4/17 with Maine...

Sounds like an opportunity to possibly line up a game with Stony Brook on 4/10 or Maine on 4/17. At this point we should schedule anyone in the CAA willing to play. Hope this is decided more than 72 hours ahead and SB is interested. If UNH waits until the day before like this week it’s not very helpful.

RE: Week 7: FB at Ticks
Question I have about scheduling a game to fill these open spots is who actually does it. Is it done solely by the schools/AD's or does the CAA do the scheduling. Since the CAA does the conference schedule normally I would think that the league would do it but I really do not know. Anyone have any insight as to what the procedure is/will be?

Along similar lines...What games during the Spring have come as a result of a reschedule? Are teams/schools actually doing that or is it just something fans are fantasizing about? (I honestly don't know, so I would love to hear of some examples.)

Pretty sure rescheduling is being handled by school ADs, and the league just blesses it and maybe handles a bit of logistics around refs, etc. I think both schools have to talk and agree, then notify the CAA. At least this is how it appears based on what I've been reading.

The CAA league office doesn't really seem to have a lot of power over anything to be honest. Even who gets the AQ is going to be determined by a vote of the ADs this season. Outside the (awful) media deal, Joey seems like a figurehead whose office handles logistics and messaging.
