It will be interesting where he goes, didn't see this coming. I figure he would play pro ball overseas (and he could still do so) somewhere, and make 350,000/yr for some team.

RE: Marreon Jackson: Transferring
Very fortunate to have had MJ at Toledo for four years. In the past, other very good MAC guards have transferred out to a higher level. I think bg may have had one who did fairly well down at o$u, and Ohio had a guard (Cooper) I think
that did not fare as well up at Michigan.
So you never know how this will pan out for Jackson. Either way he gets paid, but the downside is, that I highly doubt much future mention of him will be about his great career as a Rocket.
- Good luck to him !!

He seems the type that will make sure it does. His letter was genuine. Everyone is wishing him well. Great things ahead.

All the league’s top players are transferring it seems like, it’s getting out of hand.

Don’t take this the wrong way — this is his career he’s working towards. You’re just a dude on a message board that cheers for Toledo. He owes you nor anyone else at Toledo any more than he’s given the past 4 years. He’s gotta do what’s best for him.

I don’t believe I said he owes me anything? Just venting my frustration. It’s going to be awfully painful to watch him play in another school’s uniform. And if he makes it pro, his latest school will get the credit on bios and whatnot, not Toledo. This is a new trend in CBB and it’s going to kill the mid-majors.

Nothing like doubling down on one of the stupidest takes ever...

Good luck MJ and thanks for 4 great years. We will miss your intensity and focus on winning. No one tried harder to win the conference championship than you. No doubt your future is bright no matter what you decide to do.

According to his statements he is just considering portal along with other opportunities. But I don't see how any team will want to sign him as transfer if he may still be considering Europe or NBA? That may be a reason why Toledo would want him to decide now if he is going to be back or not - so they can sign others and not have his uncertainty hold them back.

BG’s guard entered the portal last year, then returned to BG. I suppose anything’s possible.

Wow! Nice group of top level programs. If this is accurate, Marreon should be in good shape next year. Certainly would hope he got this type of reception for all he did to help the Rockets. No issue what so ever for this move by him. Certainly deserving of all good that comes his way.

Great list of potential suitors for MJ, including many that made the Tournament this year. This interest shows the value teams place in having good point guard play. Wow, could you see MJ playing for Huggins at WVA or Hurley at ASU -- both polar opposites of TK in coaching demeanor!

Arkansas under Mussellman seems to have a good thing going with transfers being effective add-ons...couple who contributed this season & they made it to the Elite Eight. USC might be a bit of a culture shock...Purdue or West Virginia if he wants to stay close to Cleveland?

Probably not those two but any number of the others on that list. Hoping he lands where he can shine and be validated as a legit next level player.Like he said "he is betting on himself" and you have got to give him all the props for that approach.

What he told Strack and what makes sense is that he's only considering places were he can start for a high major team. If he's just going to be a backup it doesn't really help him put together more film for the scouts, so in that case he might as well just go straight to Europe.

NBA likely not a possibility this year 'cause reportedly there are not going to be any workouts, and he isn't going to get drafted. Maybe next year the chances are better - either with film from a year at a amajor school, or pro ball in Europe.

The Blade:

Mid-American Conference player of the year Marreon Jackson is already receiving an avalanche of attention since entering the transfer portal Monday night.

13 isn't an avalanche and heard from isn't a commitment. Would be a nice reality though. Of USC's top four guards, three are seniors and one a junior. If they're leaving.... imagine feeding the rock to the forest of running redwoods that is USC!

There's nothing wrong with the transfer portal. If the grass is greener on the other side for Jackson, good for him. If not, so be it.

The coaches can leave schools without any penalty. Why should the players not have some freedom? Are you against the free market?

RE: Marreon Jackson: Transferring
This transfer means little in terms of the basketball team as there was no plan for marreon to return to UT for a 5th year. This is rian rollins team moving forward and marreon's excellent career at UT had it's natural conclusion this season with a conference title and poy award.

On a psychological level it stings a bit as he may well end up at somewhere like arkansas and if he goes pro from there his rocket career and connection will be minimized and overlooked. it will also be weird to watch him play college ball somewhere else.

as one report mentioned it was a mutual decision. marreon wants to play in the nba and another year in the mac wouldn't get him closer to that goal. it was either try to latch on in the g league and move up or go P5 and show the ability to outplay guys in those leagues. the reality is marreon didn't play very well against good non-conf competition this year (bradley, xavier, michigan, richmond) and needs to show he can handle that level of play routinely to get a shot at the NBA.
